Book Shelf #182. St Marks Is Dead: The Many Lives of America's Hippest Street by Ada Calhoun, 2015. An amazing cultural history of a street in NY's East Village. I really liked the oral history aspect of the book. Very entertaining and socially relevant. Finished it last night. #books #booksky #NYC
This Clapton set...
* Eric Clapton, 1970
* Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, 1970
* Eric Clapton's Rainbow Concert, 1973
* 461 Ocean Boulevard, 1974
Kitchen Listening #35. Eric Clapton albums from the early 70s made for a wonderful afternoon today while getting some painting done. I saw him perform twice. Derek & The Dominoes in 1970 and solo in 1974. Never saw Cream... damn it.

We certainly need to do a better job with everything like healthcare, education, crime, housing, climate change, corporate welfare, etc, etc.

This first set of four albums was awesome and really brought back some memories. I hadn't listened to these records all the way through in many years. More to come.
* Days of Future Passed, 1967
* In Search of the Lost Chord, 1968
* On the Threshold of a Dream, 1969
* A Question of Balance, 1970
Kitchen Listening #34. The Moody Blues. 4 classic albums from 1967-1970. A very intense fascinating band. I did get to see them live a couple of times. Once in a small club and later in a large festival setting. Both in the late 1960's.

I was a big Rod Stewart and Faces fan during the early to mid 70's. The last album I got from him aside from this set was in 1975. As much as I liked those albums of Rod Stewart in the 70s there is something very raw and exciting about this box set. Another great collection from Rhino Records.
Kitchen Listening #33. Five Guys Walk Into A Bar. A Faces 4 CD box set that includes tracks from their four albums along with many rarities, non-album singles, BBC sessions, etc. A great Rod Stewart five hour listening experience.

Book Shelf #180. Lynch on Lynch by David Lynch, 1997. Read this amazing film memoir recently after his passing. I saw all of his movies. Got his albums too. It was interesting to read what he had to say about his films over the years.

Book Shelf #179. Music History. Fire and Rain: The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, James Taylor, CSNY and the Lost Story of 1970 by David Brown, 2011. Just read this fascinating story of four iconic albums from 1970. It was also a very important year in my life at 18.

* Pretzel Logic, 1974

* The Royal Scam, 1976
Kitchen Listening #32. Relaxing with some early Steely Dan. I got these albums as they were released in the early to mid 70's and played them a lot back in the day. It was nice to spin these five today and I'll play some more tomorrow.

* Gary Burton Collection, 1996

Kitchen Listening #30. Gary Burton with 4 albums from the early 70's in my collection. I've always loved the vibraphone sounds of Gary Burton and that he played with so many different jazz artists too. I saw him live with Chick Corea in a small club. 74

Veterans Day began as Armistice Day, honoring the end of World War I—then it was changed to honor ALL who served.

Now Trump wants to rename it. Reframe it. Twist it into a tribute to conquest.

Veterans don’t need rewritten history. They need respect—and the benefits they earned.
Vinyl Spins #101. Dub Housing - Pere Ubu, 1979. RIP David Thomas. I had to spin one of my favorite Pere Ubu albums this morning. I'll listen to a few more later.

Film Favorites. Random Pick #44. The Last Detail, 1973. This movie was released about a week or so before I got out of the Navy. I saw it shortly after and had read the novel a couple of years earlier. Liked Jack Nicholson movies during those years.

The author Peter Lovesey came to my attention when he recently passed away. I've wanted to read his detective series but just hadn't. Now that I've read the first book of the Peter Diamond series I'm hooked. It was a fantastic book.
Book Shelf #178. Crime Mystery Favorites. The Last Detective by Peter Lovesey, 1991. I just finished this novel today and gave it 5 stars on Goodreads. This was my first book by this author and I'm looking forward to reading many more in this series.
