NEW: Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani said Thursday he will not continue sweeps of homeless encampments — which city data shows have not yielded any permanent or supportive-housing referrals in more than a year.

Disabled people will lose access to care if enhanced premium tax credits expire. These help make healthcare affordable for self-employed freelance and contractors. We need action before the end of 2025. Reporting by @juliametraux.bsky.social in @motherjones.com:

Read @juliametraux.bsky.social's latest. The findings are concerning on their own, but are amplified by the fact that many workplaces rely on freelancers for basic functioning.

When I worked at NBC, many roles were required to be a contractor for a year before being eligible for benefits.
For @motherjones.com, I wrote about what's at stake for chronically ill contractors and freelancers as Affordable Care Act enhanced tax credits expire.

When you're already sick, the possibility of not being able to afford health insurance at all is terrifying. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

It’s vital to recognize that’s how he gained power.

That’s true for all of our current medical establishment, who all are flailing with real world responsibility.

It is a good thing, actually, that more students at elite schools are receiving testing accommodations. It's good because it means more disabled people are going to top universities AND face less stigma in seeking them out.
