During my uni days, I had a part-time job with the PRS and spent many evenings watching covers bands in pubs and working men's clubs. Every single one of them played 'Dance the Night Away' - so much so, it became the unofficial theme tune of that period in my life. RIP Raul Malo.

How much psychology went into those 'Spotify listening age' calculations?

I don't think we were meant to have all the music, all the time tbh

Dear AI slop purveyors: Mr T is not 97.

In my research for tomorrow's Around the World show on @chilternvoice.bsky.social, I learnt that Jimmy Cliff was the second youngest in a family that had nine children - which would make him 'Eight of Nine' in #StarTrek mythology. #RIPJimmyCliff

I’m beginning to think that there are two Pharrell Williamses: the socially conscious one who scores civil rights-based films like Hidden Figures, and the other one who writes ‘Blurred Lines’ and talks crap about politics and race.

RIP Dharmendra. The news of the deaths of both him and Jimmy Cliff today has triggered loads of memories of growing up in Sierra Leone in the 70s, where we were constantly exposed to Bollywood films and reggae music. Thank you both for the way you enriched our lives.

Pump up the Jam is definitely one of my top 5 songs about fruit preservation methods though admittedly, introducing pneumatics contravenes most health and safety protocols.

The number of far-right nasties and Turning Point wannabes that flooded my FB feed with ads this weekend is mad. Is “binge blocking” a thing? ‘Cos if it is, that’s what I’ve been doing these past few days.

On the one hand, I commend Santa on taking due diligence seriously (double-checking his list). On the other hand - dude, mind your own business!

And next week, it’s off to school to watch the kids in ‘The Story of Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the Wee Donkey’ (I think that’s what it’s called).

Have they stopped teaching biology in schools or something? The species of tree that are mostly used as Christmas trees are all evergreens. What's the crime in Tesco pointing that out when they're selling them?

No, not now. Please stop.

There’s something rather Don Corleone-ish about that ‘pastor’ who called the baby formula woman a witch. Like seriously, you’re standing IN THE PULPIT making those low-level death threats?

I didn't have "K-pop triggers the next Satanic Panic" on my bingo card for 2025. But if some of the news stories I've seen shared on social media today are true, that could be where we're heading.

My five-year-old just said “Six seven”. Should I be worried?

The young’uns are watching Frozen - again. I still think “the Duke of Weaseltown” sounds like the title of a song that didn’t make it onto Steely Dan’s ‘Can’t Buy a Thrill’ album.

Dear Michael Ball - on what planet is Bob Marley’s ’Could You Be Loved’ a love song? Are you just picking songs with the word ‘love’ in the title? #BBCRadio2

Nowhere in the hysterical pile-on against the BBC in the British press has anyone mentioned that BBC News now has 77 million viewers & listeners in the US and has established itself as the second most trusted news source there.

Busy going through the transcript of an interview I did yesterday. Apparently, the orchestra I was interviewing will be hosting an event with "nine lessons and carrots" next month. 🤣
Thanks for that laugh, Descript...

Take That’s ‘Relight My Fire’ is way more disco than Dan Hartman’s original. It just bombards you with sounds.

Vital piece of investigative reporting from Sky. They've uncovered the X algorithm which feeds users extremist right wing material from the moment they join the site. It is a far-right radicalisation engine, by design.
