“When they rob us of art and emotion, that leads us towards the aesthetics of fascism. In this film, all the sets are real, the decor is human-sized, there are painstakingly created miniatures... It’s there to remind us that art is not only necessary, it is urgent. And AI can go fuck itself!”
The large number of trick-taking games getting a release at Spiel this year, has made curating my watch list a lot easier. :)
Random quote I strongly agreed with today:

"If you want players to buy into a game's long learning curve, you need to give them enough positive feedback to make it worth their time."

We should be asking this
c o n s t a n t l y.
The Venn diagram of game design and product design isn't a perfect circle.

It is more like one completely engulfs the other.
Würde man den Satz ähnlich befürworten, wenn es um Film, Musik oder Theater geht?
I think something very similar is true for rules and game design.
Surprisingly only twice. But that was after we had already left.
Despite their best efforts, no.
I accompanied five teenage boys to an escape room and made it out in time. AMA!
"...in real life, taxation and redistribution of wealth is encouraged as a fun and healthy activity for all."

Amazing! 👏🏻
"As with capitalism itself, Tax the Rich is a "must-follow" game."

I LOL'ed.

This seems a fantastic game, but I don't have the right group to play and enjoy it with.

Every time I come back to Archipelago, the game feels more nuanced and full of social commentary than I remember.

And while there are some major missteps (namely the icons for rebels and natives), there are just many facets that are more and on point that most other games of that time.
How come Harmony of Dissonance has a less thorough walkthrough than Circle of the Moon?

I was under the impression it was considered the superiour entry?

It cannot be made clearer.

If you continue to support the Harry Potter franchise in any way, you are directly funding the removal of trans people's human rights in the UK.
TIL that I apparently judge people by the company they keep and the one they avoid.
Is there a meaningful difference between depicting events/groups in a #boardgame and referencing them in a card/illustration?

Or are the two effectively interchangeable?
I was trying to say that interpretation is part of play, in the same sense that rolling dice, playing cards, counting victory points, etc is.

Evaluating (and implicitly interpreting) our experience is what I would consider part of a critique.
I'm not entirely sure what you mean here.
Hmm. Aside from ignoring the premise of the question, that seems a bit of a non-answer.
Yeah, I can see that. Things can get a little fuzzy, though, once we move from the game towards talking about the historical background of the theme, the game's inclusions and omissions, etc.

I'd say it's still a review, if you can show how it meaningfully affects the experience.
So it's only a review if it's done for free. If you want to make a living (or any income with it), you're generating content.
Also interesting. Can you talk more about what falls under the umbrella of "product" for you?
Oh, that's interesting. Would you say interpretation is part of review and criticism?

Because I see it as part of play.
