Home Alone is 35 years old.

When Home Alone came out in 1990, White Christmas was 36 years old. Home Alone is about to be as old as White Christmas was to us as kids...

This sort of thing will be included in my eventual volume, The Way of the Inefficient Gardener.

The chat couldn't have happened if I'd got a proper tree stake order from the store. I spent 20 minutes finding a stick. But who is happiest? I, or the man searching Lowe's?

Go now, you are wise.

More than 47 million Americans — including one in five children — don’t have reliable, affordable access to nutritious food. And as the cost of living skyrockets, more families are depending on SNAP benefits, or food stamps, to put food on the table.

When you talk to a regular person (i.e. not a media personality or something) and you find they have a completely different moral intuition about something that matters a lot to you, what do you tend to assume is the issue?

💯 That's my mission in Wendell.

Good morning.

Immigration is good. Trade is good.

There are nuances but they are narrow enough that free and open movement of people and goods should be the default.

I guess this won't ever happen, but wouldn't it be great if King Charles restored the role of court jester? Like imagine a guy in a funny suit who juggles, sings, and then when important people visit stands up and talks shit about them.

We've had some beautiful hikes up in Western NC this week. And we've seen 3 bears already (from a good distance). We'd love to move up here someday.

So urban workers will be sent down to the countryside, then?

If only history could be our guide…
Brooke Rollins on farm laborers: "There will be no amnesty. The mass deportations continue, but in a strategic way. And we move the workforce toward automation and 100% American participation, which with 34 million able-bodied on Medicaid we should be able to do fairly quickly."

I expect that consumer-facing AI programs will continue to improve and they may become much more useful tools for everyday life in the future.

But I think it was a disastrous mistake that today’s models were taught to be convincing before they were taught to be right.

Your now-regular reminder that no tax cut has ever paid for itself.

Ever
CBO just estimated the macrodynamic impact on the cost of the GOP bill - i.e., "is this bill going to help the economy so much that it pays for itself?"

CBO said that the bill pays for just 3.5% of itself - w/ a tiny upfront economic boost that declines over time. Legitimately embarrassing for Rs.
