All it does is flatten all relevant distinctions between the varieties of social movement, all the historical representation, all the issues of belief / truth / need into one ontology that cannot hold all that. Go beyond libidinal (and, in your case, lividinal) economy.

And so fascism would be what... The desire to desire fascism?

Mass movements may have some libidinal element, but any talk of "composition" puts you in this strange conceptual bind of a desire that produces it's object. I know that's what Deleuzians say they're talking about, but it isn't right.
germainequeer.bsky.social
(not is it composed of desire)
germainequeer.bsky.social
Sure, all of those are live issues that I'm not sure about. But fascism isn't a desire! It is desired!
germainequeer.bsky.social
You can talk about the desire for domination, sure, but there are distinct visions of that domination that persist in different political strata, and fascism is a product primarily of the attempted unification of those under the image of ethno-sexual purity.

I think quite a lot is lost the moment we start thinking in libidinal terms about fascism in definitional terms, although we might want to explain why people want fascism, but introducing it at the level of definition, as Reich etc do, means you lose lots of the distinguishing features of fascism.
germainequeer.bsky.social
Like sure you can do libidinal analysis, but isn't the like, main thing, that they believe that they are the inheritors of a superior bloodline, basically?

I wrote about the closure of CRMEP for Radical Philosophy.

A few friends and I are running this on Saturday. Come and see me be stupid behind the decks. It'll be really good. Some low-income tickets available, DM if needed.

Last year, a letter was written regarding the previous attempt at closure. It was signed by just about everyone you could think of in continental philosophy and critical theory.

CRMEP is so important because, in a world that no longer values ideas, it has refused to play along.

My department, the fantastic CRMEP at Kingston University, is due to be closed mid-way through my PhD, as part of a slew of cuts to the Humanities and Social Sciences.

We will be launching a challenge to this. Last year they tried to close us, and we fought it and won - we hope we can win again.

I went on the only good podcast to talk about techno and DJing and queer nightlife. It was really stupid and fun and I was more than a little drunk so... Enjoy?

Same dynamic as FBPE, by the way, it's why the crossover between that and TERFism is so high.

One of my best friends is from a sleepy, wealthy small town in the south-west of Germany. He said, so many of my parents’ neighbours are rich and bored, with little to complain about, and they’ve radicalised themselves at dinner parties and online. In their aimlessness, they’ve bonded over hate.

This isn’t some rant saying “Germany has learned nothing from its past” - the reality is more subtle than that. Middle-class Germans live and travel with an incredible amount of ease and comfort, and they just got…sleepy. Many of them dismissed the far-right’s rage as just another set of complaints.

Reminder that submissions are still open for abstracts for the 2025 CRMEP conference on life/death. Aimed at postgraduate students.

yes, and it also allows you to imagine yourself as an existential warrior in pursuit of the truth, rather than someone who has hallucinated a world-historical importance of their hobby.

It is actually very important to theorybros to allow them to say patently false things online 🩷 it's their culture ! Please be sensitive 💗

Nono, they are committed to the defense of The Left against, oh I don't know what is it this time, Nietzschean-Deleuzo-Prometheans? Okay sure whatever that'll work.

For many in left media and academic circles, the most important thing about the "anti woke" "ant-idpol" moment is that it's an opportunity to sell loads of books

What THE FUCK is this? Even putting the evil of it aside for one second, on what planet, in what conceivable timeline, is this cogent messaging in 2025? Labour Comms is being run by six trainee marketers called APEX or VIVACITY, about to lose a team challenge on the Apprentice 2008.
A mocked up chat shared by the Labour Party below the caption

This Labour government is securing our borders.

- Did you hear what Labour are doing about illegal immigration?
- Hm, no?? Surely gonna be tough to clean up the mess the Tories made (quizzical emoji)
- They've already done a lot! They've removed more people with no right to be here than in any year since 2018 (tick emoji)
- That's actually really interesting.
- They've also set up a Border Security Command and invested heavily in tech and policing to stop the boat gangs exploiting people!
- Wow, looks like they've really hit the ground running! (Running emoji)
