In the 1920s German Communists were calling Luther the first Social Democrat for his endorsement of the murder of the peasants and Müntzer and by God they were right!
I've joked it before, but to hear me talk about Thomas Müntzer and the German Peasants' War is like hearing a heretic Astartes still going on about the Horus Heresy 10,000 years after the fact. It is a deep, old grudge that has become almost foundational to my identity.
can we at least start litigating some different wars? somebody do some wars of the roses posting, that could tie up the timeline for at least two years, you can cross the streams with GoT posting and really deep fry some brain worms

BLOOD WORK / EPISODE 9

TO LIVE AS PEOPLE OR DIE LIKE MEN: ATTICA

In 1971, a community cast aside by the state attempted to reclaim their humanity and political subjectivity. We look at the Attica Prison Uprising to see what that event can teach us about politics, law and violence.

It's funny how the intellectual chops of people like Power has become directed almost entirely to making themselves feel like aesthete philosopher rebels by virtue of their enjoyment of essentially shock jock radio slop, saturated with 4chan memes and tasteless slurs. It's Comedia del Arsehole.
Grimly telling comment (well, the little of it that makes sense). for so many of these edgy rwers this is all a big fun game. Which would be fine if it wasn’t in the service of people with actual commitments — to white nationalism, antisemitism, and the worst kind of reactionary politics

The group, the MCC, is set-up to indoctrinate young Hungarians into the regime’s ideology & so that they promote its interests. Speakers at this event who claim to oppose such indoctrination in unis in the UK include Furedi, Fox, Goodwin, Orr, Williams & various other members of the Spiked/RCP cult.
Toby Young, self-appointed king of free speech, is speaking in Hungary tomorrow about UK “censorship”.

He’ll be addressing a group funded by Viktor Orbán’s autocratic regime, which has seized control of the country’s media, judiciary, and routinely harasses its critics

Today I discovered that the philosopher J.G. Fichte had a brief but disastrous stint as a stand up comic.

He spent so long setting himself up he never made it to the punchline.

I wrote something reflecting on today.
Today is Trans Day of Remembrance.

Today we remember and grieve all those we have lost. But we also commit – collectively – to fighting for those of us who are left. There will be hope as long as we continue to stand together.

It’s been great working with @d-j-frost.bsky.social on the third volume in our series on the history of the British far left. The volume, once again, brings together established and emerging scholars and Dan was instrumental in getting a lot of them involved in the project. It has been exciting to!

The British library is in crisis: why does nobody care?

"If it sounds like it's Nazi shit, it's supposed to. The bourgeois state and its political servants have for some time now been trying to get a bit of the glamour of fascism." [email protected] on Labour's asylum policy announcement:

Britain treats the invocation of any moral obligation it acknowledges as minimally binding on itself as a hostility. How dare refugees impose on the state by asking it to do what it ought to do? It doesn't even fulfil this! Labour are, to quote Bevan, less than vermin. A cruel and bureaucratic evil.
BBC News: "the government believe refugees are deliberately bringing their children to avoid deportation"

As opposed to doing what with their children??

Also: the far right is an entertainment franchise to the majority of its base. Labour's strategy would be like telling a generation raised on WWE and AEW that you're going to do *proper* Olympic-style wrestling, with no silly costumes or fake stories. Nobody wants that! They want to be entertained!
Appeasing the far-right gives the broader public the impression that their narrative is true. There is no way to stem support for Reform by endorsing their policies. Either you are fighting against them or you are, regardless of how you see yourself, fighting for them.
