Funders expect evidence of 'promise' (the intervention is likely to work) when considering whether to fund an RCT, pilot, or feasibility study. But there is no shared understanding of how we should do this. We have been funded by @nihr.bsky.social to develop guidance to help.

A Christmas gift from me to my fellow word nerds:

Nine Christmas-related words with interesting etymologies, one for each of the nine letters of 'Christmas'!

It was written with much linguistic love in an armchair beside a roaring fire.

Couldn't find a starter pack for the #EvidenceSynthesis community in health and care research and beyond so I created one.

If you're not on this and would like to be and/or have suggestions of others to add let me know. Or indeed if you know of a starter pack I've missed.

Forced on to twitter to figure out transpennine express randomness, idly checked our posts about our fabulous conference last week and the engagement was startlingly low; everyone was engaged on LinkedIn….

We hosted the inaugural Futures, foresight and horizon scanning conference #FFHSC2024 this week. Our early career researchers did a fantastic job of organising and we were delighted to welcome so many people working in this fast moving space to Newcastle from across the country and beyond!
