The Washington Capitals end their four-game losing streak and defeat the Calgary Flames 3-1. Inconsistent as always, the first period was pretty bad, but the second and third looked like a competent team playing a worse one. 40 minutes is better than none. 🧵 #ALLCAPS

After that first period, any improvement would look good, but that was an actually good second period (for the most part). Lapierre finally scored, the shots went from 16-8 Calgary to 25-20 Washington, the penalties were evened up. If they can dominate in attempts again, they can win it. #ALLCAPS

The streak...is over. Hendrix Lapierre, goalless in his last 90 games, finally finds himself in position to end the drought. He gets the Capitals into a tie and himself into a column he hasn't seen since two years ago. #ALLCAPS

The Flames looked pretty good in the first period and got 16 shots on goal against the Capitals. That alone tells you just about everything you need to know about Washington's play. Bad passing, bad and plentiful turnovers, they're down 1-0. More weak hockey. #ALLCAPS

The upside to the Caps already allowing seven shots on goal is it'll only take three more saves for LT to get back to .900

The worst power play in the NHL didn't look too bad, but the Caps' penalty kill looked better, at least until it didn't. The tough angle of this shot beats Logan Thompson and puts the Flames up 1-0. #ALLCAPS

The Capitals are down 4-2 after two to the Canucks. They're not playing well, they're giving it away in the D-zone, it's just bad right now. It's not out of the realm of possibility that they come back in the third, but it's not very likely either. Not one worth staying up for so far. #ALLCAPS

The Capitals looked like they were gonna make this a good one, but started Capitaling it up as the period went on. They went from a 2-0 lead to a 2-2 tie to end the first period, giving up two even-strength goals and squandering that hot start that would have been nice to build on. #ALLCAPS
