Off to watch Stoke v Charlton in a bit. I don’t know whether Nathan Jones has calmed down a bit these days but I hope so. Watching him have a ten-month nervous breakdown was even worse than watching his football. Give me Moderation Mark any day of the week.

When I was a kid the budget was always on a Tuesday. I don’t know when this ceased to be the case. Paradoxically I’ve stopped watching it now I can actually buy beer, cigs and petrol.

Potentially fight-starting New Order take: Get Ready is loads better than Republic.
I hadn’t heard of this but the Much Better Half recommended it. Apparently it’s a big favourite of Larry David’s and I can see why. Wry, sly and genuinely funny in a way that so many ‘funny’ novels really aren’t. So to continue the chain: LD -> MBH -> me -> you. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

It’s Bjork’s 60th birthday (no pun intended) and I’d never thought about it before but this means she’d have been in our year at school (if she’d lived near Stone or I’d lived in her bit of Iceland). Call it a tenuous link if you like but I’m having it. Happy birthday Bjork me old mate you’re great

General Franco died 50 years ago today. I read about it in the local broadsheet evening newspaper because those were still a thing. His life had ‘ebbed away’ and I remember asking my uncle what ‘ebbed’ meant. I don’t suppose I realised at the time what a twat he was. That’s Franco, not my uncle.

Like everyone else I hate these scalping ticket sites but at the same time I tend to think if you’re prepared to pay hundreds of pounds to see anyone then that’s your fault for being daft.

I know I don’t look it but I’m too young to have been into the Velvet Underground the first time round and I was still a pre-teen when the Sex Pistols were effing and jeffing on teatime TV but thankfully the J&MC came along to combine them both into one handy package. Psychocandy is 40 today 🖤

This is a great first novel and well summarised by those front-cover testimonies. It features an ‘outspoken’ fading rock singer and I wouldn’t want to speculate about who that’s based on but I suppose there might be a clue in the title. Seriously though it’s well worth reading 👍🏼
