The effects of colonialism on Black Caribbean men are central to this ambitious but underwritten play
Kanika Ambrose has clear affection for the Black Caribbean characters in ‘Moonlight Schooner,’ but they’re underwritten.

In my latest newsletter, I review two stage-related films: Chloé Zhao’s poetic, dream-like adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s novel HAMNET, and the @nationaltheatre.org.uk Live screening of THE FIFTH STEP, an intriguing two-hander about addiction.

Hamnet: to see or not to see? Plus The Fifth Step at National Theatre Live
Your mileage may vary on Chloé Zhao’s moody adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s novel, but you should see David Ireland’s powerful two-hander about addiction

So Canada's latest pretendian is returning the National Aboriginal Achievement award he received in 2003.

“The rest of my awards are based on my writing, not my ethnicity,” he added.

And what POV was that writing from? And what did he teach when he first came to Canada? (Indigenous studies.)

“No one mourns (the) Wicked”? Oh yes they do.

I enjoyed the first film, but #WickedForGood is a dark, depressing, joyless slog.

That said, #ArianaGrande is a revelation.

Ariana Grande’s layered performance is one of the only bright spots in the dark and dour conclusion to the Wizard of Oz prequel

What a treat to talk with multiple Dora Award-winning actor/writer Kristen Thomson, who’s making her Coal Mine debut in FULFILLMENT CENTRE.

Director Ted Dykstra immediately thought of her when he read the script. They starred in PROBLEM CHILD almost 30 yrs ago.
