TFW you paid $1400 to see Beckett’s most famous work without knowing anything about it
One Star Review of Waiting for Godot on Broadway
I recently attended Waiting for Godot on Broadway and spent over $1,400 for two Row C seats (103 and 104). I'm a longtime admirer of Broadway productions and even hold a season pass for Shea's Performing Arts Theatre, so I came in with genuine enthusiasm and high expectations. Unfortunately, this show was unlike anything ! have ever experienced —and not in a good way.
What I encountered was not the artistry, music, or emotional storytelling I usually associate with Broadway, but instead what felt like an endless cycle of nonsensical conversation between characters who seemed trapped in their own madness. I tried-truly tried-to find meaning, symbolism, or even a thread of emotional resonance. I stayed through the first half hoping the second would offer clarity. But by intermission, it was clear: this was a waste of both time and money.
Keanu Reeves is an actor I respect greatly, but I cannot fathom why he would agree to participate in such a disjointed, inaccessible production. His talent was lost in a performance that defied reason rather than provoked insight.
To anyone considering attending: unless you are drawn to highly abstract, nearly incomprehensible theater, I strongly caution you against this show. For the average, educated, thoughtful theatergoer, it is far more frustrating than fulfilling. In my opinion, this was the single most disappointing Broadway experience I've ever had - an unfortunate waste of money and, more importantly, of time.

so uh, I tried the homophobic chicken sandwich spoken so religiously about and...

y'all, is it NOT that good enough to sacrifice your ethics over it. Nor does is it good enough to justify the normal price point (granted it was free today so I gave them no monies)

it's FIIIIIIINE I guess, not omgly

I remembered Taylor Kitsch in the English remake of Le Grande Séduction but forgot Brendan Gleeson was in it too.

Here for Tell Tale Harbour. They're really selling the Alan Doyle part eh?! Also only JUST realized this is basically based on The Grand Seduction so now things are clicking together.

Ok Tell Tale Harbour basically feels like Come From Away light but really soars once the solos/ballads hit and Kale Penny and Melissa Mackenzie sing their Canadian romcom hearts out as the romantic leads. Cute and hokey. With requisite jokes about hockey (and cricket).

Oh yah uh... So it really does start as Come From Great Big Sea... I mean it's directed by Brian Hill who did the early workshop for Come From Away (that basically the full production looked like and won someone else a Tony Award).

What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

I had heard y'all have all sort of opinions on Bright Star the musical but maybe cause I love that banjo folky music from Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, and that narrative that spins out all over, but with this Canadian cast, I dug it. I dug it all.

It's called Bright Star because it stars Kaylee Harwood. Been saying it for years.
And George Krissa who is like the it hot boy de jour in musicals in Toronto these days.

But also didn't know Yunike Soedarmasto or Nick Dolan before but they're the next musical stars to watch.

Watching The Mush Hole feels like weird contradictions. Beautiful to watch in the visuals and movements, yet painful reminders of the violence enacted upon the Indigenous in Canada. A story we all need to know and Santee Smith's dance play is an emotionally bracing depiction on display.
The Mush Hole cast.

Making the horrid truths of THE residential school The Mohawk Institute into a stage story was never going to be easy but doing it as a dance movement play in The Mush Hole, now at YPT Toronto, turns it into a moving artistic expression of harsh emotions. Still not easy to watch though.

"We work six days a week, 52 weeks a year," said Jacqueline Jarrold, a co-chair of the negotiating team and a Broadway actor. "We need robust healthcare, yes, but also appropriate physical therapy, adequate job coverage, and reasonable time off to rest and recover."

yah, for a family estate sanctioned biopic musical, it is exactly what it was going to be, and not go in any real depths. But for a song and dance showcase, especially the ensemble dancing and choreo, it's spectac. For cheap tix, worth a look for that part.
