Matthew McFadyen as a Wambsgansian Charles Guiteau is such brilliant casting—even more so once I looked up what he actually looked like.

Again, what we’re seeing is a repeated and increasingly explicit offer of white reconciliation over a shared commitment to preserving white supremacy.

AI: For when you want to be mean to people but you're too stupid.
Everything about this might be the saddest thing I’ve ever seen

Love when LinkedIn tells me I'm "on a roll" and my "audience showed up." Wow, I got one view on a post I made about a job opening at my imprint that was filled 10 months ago! I'm unstoppable!

This should have been an instructive moment in people’s understanding of just how much people are willing to pay economically for racism and xenophobia.
Still reeling from the Stanford report on Brexit. Reduced GDP by up to 8% and investment by as much as 18%. The UK Treasury would have £40 billion more each year if Britain had remained in the EU. Devastating self-immolation.

DOGE was always a very thinly disguised con to dress up data theft and extraction class destruction of federal corporate oversight as innovative, and it's important to remember that part of the reason it worked so well is that the press helped legitimize it
hey don't be so hard on yourselves; it delivered oceans of sensitive government and citizen data to billionaires
Musk’s DOGE Quietly Killed Off After Delivering Almost Nothing
The agency disbanded eight months ahead of schedule.

Darkest part of this is when an AI article fabricates a quote by a real person, and a real-life journalist contacts that source, but the source says she doesn't mind because it sounds like something she would say anyway.
Fascinating read on how a suspicious pitch highlighted a growing problem in freelance journalism: A flood of generative AI that even prestige publications don't catch, complete with fabricated quotes, from scammers who see opportunity in a field so many real humans are struggling to survive in.
Investigating a Possible Scammer in Journalism’s AI Era | The Local
A suspicious pitch from a freelancer led editor Nicholas Hune-Brown to dig into their past work. By the end, four publications, including The Guardian and Dwell, had removed articles from their sites.

Unreal: "The EPA is moving forward with approvals for pesticides containing 'forever chemicals' as an active ingredient... The agency also announced plans to relax a rule requiring companies to report products containing PFAS and has proposed weakening drinking water standards for the chemicals."

In Trump's first term, it was common to hear people say, "Why would he do [corrupt thing]? He's already rich, he doesn't need more money." Now, just a few years later, the idea that rich people would ever be satisfied with any amount of money seems absurd.

My other question is, why is it called Magnolia?
I just watched Magnolia for the first time, and my question is, was Tom Cruise's character considered an exaggeration at the time? (I'm not young, but I was 12 when this movie came out.)

TRUMP [after spending 5 minutes with Zohran]: surplus value, it’s a very wonderful thing, very wonderful, and they’re stealing it. Can you believe that?

We shouldn't have extended the internet to everyone. It should only be available to nerds and weirdos who either build up an immunity to Online Madness or remain naturally confined to forums where their Online Madness can't reach the average citizen.

Exclusive: The U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify the swastika, nooses and the Confederate flag as hate symbols.

The military service drafted a new policy that classifies them as “potentially divisive.”
