Here's the entire poem shhhh... The Benediction of Snow By Glory Fink When I smell snow in the air, it awakens something pure and sanctified within me— something that’s been sleeping all summer long— and I feel myself becoming more wholly my Self again, as if the heat and noise have burned away and left me cleansed by silence. The air tastes of memories: early mornings when frost laced the window glass, when the world was still tender enough to believe in hope again. And once again, I can breathe— deep into my chest, all the way through my feet, into the earth I stand upon. My ribs open; I am a conduit between Air and Earth, part of everything and all together. Every breath becomes a prayer I didn’t know I was saying. A hush gathers around me like a benediction, forgiving without words, knowing I was trying all along. Somewhere, a crow calls into the stillness, and I answer back— not with my voice, but with the calmness inside me, finally remembering how to listen to the stories the trees and wind have been whispering all along.

Here's the whole scene rather than just what I could fit into the screenshot: ... the Headmistress herself appeared to announce that Mr. Grunfeld was missing. “Might anyone have heard about his whereabouts?” she asked. Everyone shook their heads. After school, Raine fetched me to go to the Headmistress’s office.🪑 The air inside was heavy with the smell of lemon polish and suspicion. 🍋😬 I sat straight in the stiff chair, trying not to fidget while the Headmistress steepled her fingers and looked me over as if I were an unsolved equation. “Gwen, why didn’t you tell me you saw him at dawn Friday morning on the lakeshore?” I blinked. “I forgot about it,” I said honestly. “I’ve slept since then.” 😴 “What was he doing? What did he look like?” “He was just wearing his trench coat,” I said, picturing the scene again. “Walking around, muttering to himself, looking at the ground like he’d lost something.” 🧥🤔 “Why didn’t you go see if you could help him?” “I didn’t think he liked me,” I replied. “So I didn’t want to irritate him before breakfast and put my foot in my mouth.” I hesitated, then added, “Are you going to call the police, Headmistress?” The woman’s eyes sharpened. “Why would I call the police, Gwen?” “Because a man is missing,” I said, baffled. “Isn’t that what you do — so the police can look for him?” “That’s none of your business, Gwen.” “Then why is it my business to talk to him before classes if I see him at the lake,” I countered, my voice rising, “but not my business to contact the authorities if his family and work have suddenly lost contact with him?” The Headmistress’s expression didn’t flicker but she did lightly sigh. “It just is, Gwen.” Apparently, adults get to decide when a missing person is actually missing. “Has anyone gone to his home?” I pressed. “Maybe he’s sick with the flu and needs medical attention?” Headmistress Bullock and Raine exchanged a look — the kind adults use when they’ve already decided not to tell you something.
