Tools are really hard to make. There's so much less margin for error when you're making a tool versus a video game.

Two pieces of art, both individually featuring characters from my game, were illustrated by the giga-talented @geahgeah.bsky.social!

Thank you so much!!!

I made a few minor adjustments, additions and optimizations. Figured I should post progress on youtube!

Goblins that ride stags? How fantastical!

Made some performance fixes. The culprit was not what I thought it was originally, but I have my frames!

Goblins riding Stags that chase after you on horseback. Horseback combat, yes please!

It's been a while since I modeled a non-humanoid anything. Nothing here's final, I'm just trying to get a feel for how the rig'll look before I commit myself to the model and finish it. I'm better at rigging, anyways...

Swinging swords astride horses should be in every game. It makes no sense biomechanically, but I want it.

Probably goes without saying, but don't make code with any dependence on classes like EditorInterface for release. I spent a few hours because I wanted to visualize something in the editor!

I have reins, but no reins I want. Geometry likes to throw a fit, so I'm thinking better ideas instead of bashing my head into the wall for the fourth time.

Making things more dynamic is probably better for me, anyway!

I think I'm getting the hang of it!

New build for Ventury! Here's what happens!

Tonight:

I fight Goblins
Aria finds faith in skeletons
and Tinsel chews up my headphones

More in thread!
Goblins are basically done, they just need to disappear when they are defeated.

Blocking, losing their posture, knockback after a flurry of attacks, dying, attacking, being parried - the whole nine yards!

This is such an incredible bug, I just have to share it.

Made some progress on the animations for a goblin enemy in my game. I think I want these guys to be more simple than the skeleton enemies I already have, since those guys are harder for people who tested the game before.

Moving platforms are a door problem in and of themselves.
Also, prototyping any level takes a lot of time. Make the space navigable and interesting in terms of layout and tangible features before you make it look pretty!

Holy moly I was using blusky wrong the whole time, again?

Currently looking into a new prototyping environment for most of the game's mechanics and features. Might take up until mid-November to get done?

I made some changes to the horse, and gave some attention to combat again.

Crazy how adding little animations like these just add so much more life to your game baby. What I'd give for a fuzzy friend about now...

Performance improvements and a handful of minor fixes.

I managed to get 60 FPS on a little $100 mini PC that doesn't even have a dedicated graphics card on it, how neat is that?

Multi-threading is really hard, but it's also rewarding when you've exhausted all possible optimization tricks for a single thread.

Doing things with pure data and deferring any main-thread stuff is not so bad. Just be sure you're working in the right memory space when on a separate thread!
