It's Squib SZN! 20 films. 5 decades. So many squibs. With criticism, comedy, and silly-stupid hot takes, GPU pairs movies to get a better understanding of directors, actors, and trends across cinema history. https://podcastindex.org/podcast/1241991

Altman and Verhoeven let’s goooo
Where’s the girl, Jerry, where’s the girl???
Charles Laughton always makes an excellent villain :)
Neal Jordan's Mona Lisa yielded a fascinating conversation about expectations and inversion in film noir. But @mrkoral.bsky.social is getting into musique concrète so the highlights reel is a little scattered. #filmsky #filmnoir #bobhoskins #musiqueconcrete
For #squib szn, we watched #McQ 's directorial debut. Is it a pomo masterwork, or the final nail in post-Tarantino indie sleeze? Either way, it starts with 10 minutes of gay panic jokes, reenacted here in a Lebowski-style 'edited for tv' format. www.buzzsprout.com/1055659/epis...
Thanks! I thought you hosted! Appreciate the lead. I’m west coast but will catch up tonight!
How are you all watching this tonight?

I read President’s Men, and the even more dense The Final Days, their follow up book. If I remember, that one covered more of the sordid details, with more coming out as Nixon was leaving.
There was a ton more discovered, but not used in the movie. He was having all sorts of journalists followed, wanted to bomb liberal think tanks, and then all the alleged stuff he had the CIA doing…spreading heroin in the black and hippies communities. An ugly time.
This one seemed too cute by half when it first aired, but quickly became prescient with his first election.
Wow never seen that poster,,,incredible
Miller's Crossing! Is it good? Most would say so, but one of us says 'no'! Can he survive the ensuing melee? Can you even bring weapons to a podcast?!?! Tune in gentle listener... #squib szn. #coenbrothers #millerscrossing #filmsky
Yes, absolutely wild that Rango is kind of a Chinatown spoof/remake.
I love Widmark! Panic in the Streets is my fave,,,that I’ve seen. What are you all watching tonight?
It’s very dense, and really only works if you know this period of Burroughs life. Didn’t stop me from watching 1/2 dozen times trying to figure it out, before know Burroughs at all!
This week on The Good, The Pod, and The Ugly, we take our SQUIB SZN meta, with 1986's corny blast F/X. A big home video hit, it turned Aussie Bryan Brown into a sex symbol for a minute, as he uses tricks of the F/X trade to get back at the FBI.
But how are the squibs???

I knew I was going to see this before I knew what it was promoting (Bram Stoker's Dracula).
Thanks for posting the list! Night and the City and Panic in the Streets are 2 all time faves. Excited to dig in!
He’s got like 80 some credits. Wild! Some of my fave movies on here…
Best movie about America? Or is that Fargo...
Ahahaha he's right! A very happy ending indeed.
This week! Alan Clarke's Elephant--inspiration for Van Sant's very different story with the same name. An incisive political commentary on The Troubles?? Or a stylish, nihilistic commentary on violence in cinema? #alanclarke #ira #gusvansant #squibs
