Happy 1st day of #Winter everyone. As I post this we are (checks 🕰️) a little over 8 hours into it. It’s quite #cold here in #Calgary #Canada so I thought this #photo most appropriate. It’s of a leafless deciduous tree, its branches draped in fresh snow in front of a #cloudy backdrop. #photography

So the #birdoftheday theme is #AllAboutTheKids. My offering is this one of very young #coot #chicks with their mother (taken at Frank Lake, Alberta 🇨🇦 in late June this year). It serves as a contradiction to the thought that, “all baby animals are cute.” #photography #bird 🪶 #birds #nature #wildlife

Come December and the #White-tailed #Jackrabbits which roam the city of #Calgary in large numbers change colour from brown to white. Their ears remain dark, but natural predators - coyotes, bobcats and wolves - still have a much harder time spotting these hares (yes, they are #hares). #photography

So... today's #birdoftheday is #BirdsOnTwigs. Seeming to defy gravity, this Red-winged Blackbird was photographed this year near a pond in #Calgary. It's not an illusion, for his tail and body hides most of the small branch, er... #twig. 😊 #photography #bird 🪶 #birds #nature #wild

An alternate #birdoftheday is #seabird. That allows me to post this #photo of a #ring-billed #gull I saw two weeks ago on the #Bow #River in #Calgary 🇨🇦. No sign of them now, for before December 1 these #birds migrate to the southern USA. They’ll return in March. 🙂#photography #bird 🪶 #nature #wild

My father - 18 when he joined the 🇨🇦 army - fought in France & Italy. He died in 1978. I always think of him on November 11. #Photography #LestWeForget
