one of the most depressing realizations in politics is the day you understand that a lot of people would legitimately prefer to spend more money to make sure nobody “undeserving” gets a benefit than to make it accessible to everyone

Right, let's make this more gay.

Today's advantage of being a housebound spoonie with a busted circadian rhythm: Take-away for breakfast.

My ultimate book recommendations on storytelling that kick STC's butt:
- Story Genius by Lisa Cron
- The Idea by Erik Bork
- Write Your Novel From the Middle by James Scott Bell
- How to Tell a Story by The Moth
- Nobody Wants to Read Your Sh*t by Steven Pressfield

Vibes from my 2024 year-at-a-glance #tarot reading:

I've got a big journey ahead. My new life will start by Spring, and aside from a bit of a hiccup during Summer, Autumn will be a steady climb of awesomeness, and I'll be rich by next Winter. 🤔🤣💪🚀

I'm cross- posting to places other than Mastodon with the same mindset I have when I keep random cables and gadget components. Just in case I need them. I never need them, but you never know.

Y'know when you're working away, getting in the zone, and then suddenly there's a cat on your boobs?
When I said I wouldn't mind more pussy, this isn't exactly what I had in mind.

Testing Yup - a cross posting app. So far I can only use it to post between bsky and the other site. No Mastodon and Threads is "coming soon."

2 books read today. That leaves 16 books. I hadn't accounted for the socialising I'd have to do over Christmas. Oh well.

A claim could be made that writer's responsibility does not exist; that writing is a creative outlet for the writer, and it's not their responsibility how their writing affects the people who read them. After all, writers can write what they like. However, this claim ignores writer power.
December 29, 2023 at 3:47 PM
In addition, do writers have a responsibility to ensure that they are not negatively impacting readers and take care that the right lessons are being taught, especially if their target audience is impressionable?
December 29, 2023 at 3:47 PM
Once the work of a writer is out of their hands, writers have minimal control over how others interpret their writing. Is it morally imperative for writers to make every effort to ensure that their writing has the intended impact?
December 29, 2023 at 3:46 PM
I find myself thinking about [[intention-vs-impact]] and how it links to old thoughts I've had about [[writer-responsibility]]

Why do I do it? Never read the comments. Especially never reply to the comments. *finger twitch*

It's been a couple of days. I was at Mum's for Christmas, so the habits triggered by sitting at my desk (such as brain-dumping on social media) went out the window.

I wonder if I can read 18 books in 14 days to beat my Goodreads challenge... Considering I have a few books that I'm in the middle of, it might be doable. Ooooh, I'm tempted to try.

The vibe is pausing work every so often to warm hands under armpits, and when those get cold, under boobs.

Just broke a bunch of my links. Oops.

I feel like fiddling with the ol' obsidian.MD vault today. Part of the problem with my writing productivity is that I haven't streamlined my workflow. Such things take time, and because I'm an amateur, mouse-first, UI-positive geek, I'm on a steep learning curve.

I just noticed - because my carer puts my shopping away - that Tesco had substituted my 4 blocks of own-brand butter with Lurpak. Score!

Just updated my "about me" page on my blog, and fixed links that didn't work before so I seem approachable. I'm probably not, but you can poke me at a safe distance via social media now.

My laughing started making me dizzy and the cat felt the need to come check on me, which made me laugh harder. I may have popped something important.

I did some editing of the opening chapter of the mega-project today, though my editor does the hard part by finding edits to suggest in the first place. Editors are angels.
