That's a neatly diplomatic response.

Racking my brains to figure out which festival you could be referring to... Surely not the one I was involved with, once upon a time?

Some ships are just unlucky... They don't catch fish, or keep breaking down, accidents happen all the time, crew problems. I worked on one such boat...
No easy explanation for it. You can only put it down to bad juju.

Picked more than enough this year! Someone told me that at the end of August the devil breathes on any blackberries that are left so they wither away... If so, he's left it late this year.
graskeggur.bsky.social
These are English blackberries, so probably fairies. Icelandic blackberries (svartber) are crowberries, and I don't know that the hidden people make any special claim to them...

The last of the last of this year's blackberries. As tradition (or superstition?) demands, left for the fairies.

Joining the #blogtour for A Lethal Legacy by
Guðrún Gúðlaugsdóttir (trans by @graskeggur.bsky.social) from @corylusbooks.bsky.social). A death on a remote farm leads journalist Alma into a complex & almost Gothic affair. #BookSky #crime #Iceland 📚💙

Blog tour poster for Icelandic crime novel A Letha Legacy by Guðrún Gúðlaugsdóttir (translated by Quentin Bates). The black and white cover image of the book, which is on the poster, shows two young girls - one with light hair, one dark - each holding a large doll. The landscape behind them is bleak and stony.

Absolutely. I've had so many arguments with editors over this...

Highly recommended. Although I may be slightly biased.

It's not a new expression and pre-dates the internet. To have weight, influence, to have earned respect within a particular circle. I've a feeling this was an English (ie, UK) colloquialism until social media adopted it.
A clout (UK English) is also a blow or a punch. Or it can be a piece of cloth.
