Corn Shocks in October Sunshine
Charles Burchfield 1954-59
Three whitish pyramids of corn stalks and cobs drying in the sun. Autumn yet is no more than a long lack of water, a dry field, oh! and the purple flowers!

Charles E. Burchfield, Journals, Vol. 58, October 7, 1957
About mid-morning, as we were registering for voting, one of the ladies said to me – “Did you know that Dr. Ehinger died last night?” while we all felt his days were numbered, still it came as a shock – I was unable to control the flow of tears that came (Why are we so loath to show grief in front of people?) – A feeling of desolation came over us – and all day we were remembering all that he has meant to us through the years (from 1925 on -)

Comet C/2025 A6 Lemmon.

Happy to finally capture this one.
From my location it was tough to get a good view.
I set my alarm for 4am and took my rig and dog out in the back of the field that is our yard just as the comet climbed above the tree line.

To me there is a palpable difference in the light from August/September to October, & i'd been sublimally clued-in to that for some time without realizing that it wasn't just the range of temperatures that was altered for me. It's like a key-change in music. The same notes mean something else.
