Poverty is a policy choice. Concentrated wealth is a policy choice. Inequality is a policy choice. None of it is natural or inevitable. Remember: We have the power to build a system that serves the many, not the powerful few.

Increase in productivity since 1979: 87%

Increase in hourly pay since 1979: 32%

Just so happens that ~25% of workers were unionized in 1979. Today? 10%.

As unions declined, the super-rich have taken a larger share of wealth generated by labor. We must build back union power.

As Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis stated in 1933; “We can have democracy in this country or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of the few, but we cannot have both.”

Today, at a time of unprecedented income & wealth inequality, his words ring truer than ever.

As a serious football fan, I can’t actually understand why anyone would travel to the US for the World Cup right now.

You’re gonna spend that much $ to get harassed at the airport (possibly detained by ICE), sit in car traffic on the way to matches, and watch matches on poorly maintained fields?

Waste of Oregon taxpayer dollars. Portland needs money for transit.

How could we improve regional public transportation if we didn’t build this boondoggle?

Move people not cars.

Looks like the PNW's most expensive highway project ever will not be giving us an updated cost estimate on Monday after all.

the #BikeBus shows how safety in numbers gives kids the chance to ride, learn, and build confidence on streets that would not feel safe alone. Protected bike lanes, diverters, and street designs that separate children from cars are what make this joy possible every day, not just on Bike Bus days.

Now I need to find a new hiding place 🤔

Kirby Moore is an upgrade over both those coaches.

Dickert and Rogers weren’t that great and on top of that, lacked integrity.

This is a great day!

Dear lord this was good!

There will be others, but optimism is on the menu

This ridiculous new post by Strong Towns correctly identifies a problem - we build too many failing transit capital projects - and completely misses the mark with its proposed solutions - stopping federal funding for them and instead making projects small and phased.
Are Federal Transit Grants Hurting, Not Helping, Public Transportation? | Strong Towns
Three case studies reveal how top-down funding creates rigidity, waste, and systems that cities cannot afford to fix or abandon.
