The new Woolwich Waves leisure centre will open its doors for the first time on New Year’s Day, Greenwich Council has confirmed.

The new centre includes an eight-lane, 25-metre swimming pool, two dance studios, 30-bike spinning studio and two soft play areas.

Greenwich councillors will call next week for Eltham’s new Superloop bus to be extended to Woolwich so locals can have fast access to the Elizabeth Line.

Residents are being asked to support the call in TfL's consultation, which ends on Sunday.

A plaque unveiled by the disgraced royal Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor nearly a decade ago has been removed from an entrance to Greenwich Market.

The plaque, marking the market's refurbishment in 2016, appeared to have been heavily scratched before its removal.

More than 50 trees on Woolwich Common that were set to be chopped down have been given a reprieve - at least for now - after an application to widen a road was taken off a planning committee’s agenda.

Plans for a new cycle lane had received over 500 objections.

Three new Docklands Light Railway trains have been taken out of service after one overshot a platform in wet weather.

The long-awaited B23 trains started running between Stratford International and Woolwich just six weeks ago.
