Did you enjoy the new Endurance documentary? Wonder what Shackleton's expedition would be like when combined in a graphic novel with Lovecraft's At The Mountains of Madness, Arthurian legend, and South Pacific mythology? Well I have great news ...

My county school system is hosting a small group of Danish students and teachers this week. One of the teachers is dying to experience a real American Super Bowl party. The call went out through the school emails. I hope they find one. I would love their realtime commentary on the experience.

Pro wrestling is serialized theater in the round with a range of specialized athletes. The audience can change the show as it happens. The performers adopt classic templates and contemporary cultural avatars. It's art, and art is inherently political.
Since #AEW has once again broken containment into non-fans:

Your assumptions about the education level, gender, and political leanings of professional wrestling fans are rooted in your own biases.

Listen to the fans who have always been here when they tell you this. You may learn something. 🤼🤼‍♀️

Ok, he was already my favorite. Now he's the best.
Never forget Brody King going straight from the ROH/NJPW show at MSG to a bar in Brooklyn without changing out of his gear so he could participate in a lip sync contest against a drag king as part of the Gay Young Classic.

Carol Burnett is on the latest Amy Poehler podcast, and she is still sharp as ever. Great stories, great jokes, completely engaged in the conversation. Her 1970s show was foundational for Your Humble Correspondent.
Her show and Muppets and MASH and comic books.
That's who I am.

#TheMuppetShow is just fun. The Countess and I spent the whole episode naming various Muppets in the background. The music-hall format of the show is so engrained in my head as a childhood association that I was a little shocked when someone said "friggin." But also? It was totally in character.

There exist legal networks state by state specifically for election site access and ballot security. I've been a volunteer observer for NC starting in 2016. The legal resources and recourses for early and day-of voting are immediately at hand. This will get destroyed.

This is what That Writer said her wizards used to do. Probably an utter coincidence.
Whether or not it's true that all TERFs shat themselves a couple days ago, continuously, forever, I choose to believe it. Prove me wrong.
Well, like all TERFS, he shat himself a couple days ago and hasn't changed since.

I worked for two public newspapers in my career. One was a county daily owned by the NYT. It was whittled to a sliver to cut costs, now a tabloid instead of a broadsheet. The other, an alt-weekly, closed two years after chasing daily-paper advertisers. Management kills papers, not reader apathy.

The military needs the Scouts more than the Scouts need the military.
As an Eagle Scout, let me say this is an opportunity for Scouting America to stop having a partnership with the U.S. Military.
Breaking news: The Pentagon issued a warning to Scouting America, formerly known as the Boy Scouts, saying the organization risks losing its long-standing partnership with the U.S. military unless it rapidly implements “core value reforms.”

I had long heard that Kahn was responsible for Crisis in Infinite Earths to streamline decades of character timelines and restart global icons for modern comic storytelling. That was a tremendous proposition, and it was so well done.
On this day in 1976, Jenette Kahn, a comics outsider was installed as publisher of DC Comics, which was failing and in danger of shutting down completely. At the time I thought WTF, what sort of corporate skullduggery is this? As did most of comicdom. Man, were we all wrong. She's a legend.

Thinking of all those folks who only watched Sinners on a streaming service that reduces the movie window and moves to another title within ten seconds as the closing credits begin. They missed the entire nightclub epilogue and the post-credits performance.
