I usually have a good eye for AI, and this doesn't raise any red flags (Of course, he could be hiding it well since he's an actual artist)

As for the timelapse, i can't say much considering i have an equally messy process. Though i don't know if i'd be editing as much during the render.

It looks alright to me. To be totally honest, I haven't seen their art in a while, but it seems like their rendering has had a glow-up, could be practice, or a different process?
