I find starting from a ref and changing it up leads to stiff and disjointed body/limb poses that are less fluid/expressive too.

I do browse for inspiration if i'm extra stuck on a pose idea though. sketchdailies is decent, huaban is good once you find a good board, i save anything i see for later.

I saw you mention drawing from memory, and I think that's a good starting point!

I usually thumbnail sketch poses from imagination, then use refs i've collected over the years or random internet finds to "inform" the thumbnail. Like it will never be exact, just things to help me figure out parts.
