The funniest thing is like I do this when I’m writing. I will say lines of dialogue outloud. I will contort my face or body for posture. I could partly blame running TTRPGs but I was doing that long before.

But if you tell a computer to make hockey smut. Is it going to be able to focus in on concepts of fragile masculinity. Of the the body as usefulness. The lines between intimacy/trust. Hell is it gonna know what it feels like to roll an ankle. It can madlibs the words. But what’s it trying to say?

But in all seriousness part of the argument that people make is that this thing is doing what people do which is taking and remixing. Because “nothing is new under the sun” and while that is true. It’s simplistic. For example. MM hockey romance smut it’s basically just masc 4 masc regency novels.

Trust me, I am extremely aware of where the problem is. And am fairly vocal about my overall distain of it being shoved down our throat by inventors. But usage normalizes it. Language normalizes it. Because at the end of the day, eventually, these companies are going to want people to pay for it.
My day job is product management. I cannot tell you how many meetings I have been in this year where I say:
“Isn’t this just the same thing you were working on before but now you call it AI?”
Or
“How are we adjusting to both MIT & Goldman Sachs saying that it isn’t real?”
I get no real answer.

Trust me, I am extremely aware of where the problem is. And am fairly vocal about my overall distain of it being shoved down our throat by inventors. But usage normalizes it. Language normalizes it. Because at the end of the day, eventually, these companies are going to want people to pay for it.
