raiden by default gave his kids his surname (hamasaki), he felt weird giving estiniens surname with his firstborn and it just stuck for his twins. for consistency sake.
his daughter did end up taking Varlineau because she 1. left to live in ishgard 2. she hates raiden

i just think its lack of compassion for other people in the space who *are* uncomfortable. the tyrant is darker than most npcs, it isn't a stretch for ppl to ask you to reassess the ship dynamic you're trying to establish for any bigotry. it only turns into an attack on you if you make it one.
