Realistically idk if I'm ever going to actually learn + get decent at any language(s) other than welsh and polish coz I'm just too indecisive!! I want to learn every language!! and I have 0 'real' motivations that would make choosing a TL easier 😪😪

About halfway through Feminisms: A Global History (Lucy Delap) (the references take up a good 50 pages at the end so the % is off ). Pretty informative and very accessibly written for a noob but it's a bit more UK/America/western world centred than I was expecting #booksky

We're currently in the midst of 16 Days of Activism & this article offers a powerful reminder that language is one of the primary means through which gender-based violence operates.

‘Mansplaining’ is different from other criticism – and Rachel Reeves is right to call it out
Women in public life often experience gendered behaviour but are punished for pointing it out.

Did some reading in welsh and polish 'this morning' (late afternoon but it's when I woke up lol) and my comprehension was so bad!

Negative: uhh, the above

Positive: usually I'd spiral about how stupid and bad at languages (/everything) I am, but today I thought maybe I'm just tired 😴

did my first readthrough of unit 7 of Teach Yourself Complete Romanian and was introduced to the dreaded subjunctive 😨😨

but... it looks like it only has unique inflections in the third person?! yippee!!! and it's always indicated with the word 'să' so it's easy to spot ^___^

My first concrete 2026 goal: SEE MARINA!! 🥰🥰

I've booked a ticket for her show in cardiff in the summer. Would be a good first-show-in-7-years to go to ^__^ Tonight I'll google around and see if I can get a hotel room closeish to the venue.

...Marina vs agoraphobia, who will win??!

my experiment with stopping flashcards for polish has shown that for me, increasing input while still looking up vocab (just w/o ankifying it) is more fun and muhc more sustainable than constant flashcards, though a little less efficient (short-term). long-term results are in the making 😁😁

I'm thinking about lifestyle-related goals to work on next year, things that have been limited by my mental health. I have a rough list and I'm actually looking forward to the future :)

In my experience, ED'ed people sympathise and vegans get angry, but... sometimes my bulimia cravings are sooo bad I get non-vegan food, even after 10 years of (...mostly) being vegan. I'm just not inherently disgusted by cheese, milk powder, etc

... I just ordered a pizza hut 😭😭😭

I've started making an effort to listen to music semi-regularly again and I've listened to 100 different albums since August ^__^
most were old favourites but I did find some good new stuff to listen to

(also my lastfm daily scrobble average went from like 8 to 12... a tiny improvement lol)

b) my dad was fluent and published a few books in German, and
c) because of b) we have a mini library of German history books at home 👀👀

...d) I love Tokio Hotel 😅

although I've been using my Post-Transition Forever Name for about 5 years now I kinda wanna change it again... my name's 100% male-leaning but as I've become more aware of my inner identity I want sth at least a little bit gender-neutral. but my nephews would be confused ;__;

📔How would you split the word p̓x̣ʷłtłp (bunchberry plant) into syllables?
The study of Nuxalk's syllables actually traces back to at least 80 years ago, longer than I had first thought

This week's essay gives an overview of how our understanding of Nuxalk syllables has developed over time!

The syllables in Nuxalk
In the world’s languages, speech is often organised into sequences of speech sounds called syllables. For instance, in English, “golf” has one syllable, while “defenestratio…
