Sorting stuff into albums, I found my favorite Hummingbird video. It was in September 2022 not long before they migrated south. I did actually live outside that month. 🪶🌱 #birds #FlowerReport

There's a red shouldered hawk and the smaller one is a mockingbird.

The red cedar tree on another property is a favorite power perch for birds to feel on top of the world. In a short time three different birds claimed the high perch. Can you identify any? Answers are in the alt text. 🪶

We may have to move the feeder! The Downey Woodpecker is drilling a hole in the tree and possibly creating a lazy bird's stash. I'm used to woodpeckers and nuthatches holding a seed in a crevice to shell but this is new. 🫣🪶

I'm not sure how my camera did this! One of the late arriving Ruby- throated Hummingbirds in extra small perched up high and had some good scritches. 🪶

You're always expecting the next bad thing to happen, whether it does or not.

Later Caroline Wren went up in a tree and continued to flounce in anger. I think today the other small bird has moved on and isn't trying to takeover Wren's safe place. 🪶 3/3

Carolina Wren was very dramatic going up the post of the shepherd's hook and tried going in the cone of the baffle. Oops. 🪶 2/3

I don't know exactly why a Carolina Wren has been so hyperactive and cranky this week. There might be territorial spats with either a visiting Northern House Wren or Song Sparrow. There were loud spats in the shrubbery close to the house, where Wren was (?) born in a geranium pot on the porch.🪶 1/3

What!? Congrats! Grumbles..... just the usual suspects here today. I caught myself taking pics of a mourning dove preening in a leafy tree.

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #spotted, meaning you've been spotted by your subject or a bird that has spots.
These two Downey Woodpeckers stared off at each other, then tumbled through the leaves with play battles for a while. It was furious, then the next day they did it again. 🪶
A downy woodpecker looking up on a branch. An angry downey woodpecker glares down at another on the branch. This picture barely gets both woodpeckers in the frame together before they start play fighting and tumbling in the leaves.
