The fascists are not inevitable. They're not unstoppable. They're not all powerful. They want you to think that, but millions turned out last month to call their bluff. And millions turned out today to claim our power. We will win.

If you want or need SNAP benefits, literally the only barrier should be...signing up.

"But what about fraud?" My sibling in red, white, and blue, THE PENTAGON HASN'T PASSED AN AUDIT IN YEARS AND MONEY IS FAKE. I don't care if too many people have food assistance.

On Threads, the usual suspects are telling ppl about to lose SNAP benefits to just start a garden. As a gardener, I had to laugh. You need at LEAST an acre of land to feed a family of 4. Start-up costs are enormous. But yes, subsistence farming on the balcony of your rental apartment is the answer

[1/2] Slowly making my way through "The Big Book of Classic Fantasy" and as soon as I got to a certain passage from "The White People" by Arthur Machen, my recognition shot me back *two years ago* when I was reading "The Twisted Ones" by @tkingfisher.com for Halloween. Omg, I wasn't even aware >

I am filled with so much love and gratitude that I cannot grieve. Dr. Goodall worked tirelessly in her gentle, hopeful way for a better world for all life on Earth. She has laid down her field notebook for the last time; now it is for us to fill with wonder, joy, and connection, into infinity.
Jane Goodall's work insisting, with evidence from her brilliant and tenacious fieldwork, that we were not so separate from animals, and they were much more like us than the Eurocentric theorists asserted, was so important.

Just a reminder before the “big announcement” today.

Autism was discovered in 1911 and the modern definition of Autism came in 1943.

Tylenol wasn’t widely used until the 1950s.

Anyone trying to tell you that Tylenol causes Autism isn’t someone that should be taken seriously.

I've just sobbed reading this. I've never heard this story before.

Decency in people should never be underrated. Think about the horrors of the Holocaust. Millions died, yet without Kindertransport, Oskar Schindler, people who hid Anne Frank & others like her, the death toll would've been higher.

I'm glad he got his WAY OVERDUE recognition and love before dying.
Fascinating thread about the life and career of Tyrus Wong, whose illustrations were the basis for the visual look of Disney's "Bambi."
Wong was born October 25, 1910 in Taishan, Guangdong. At age 9 his father brought the boy to the US, leaving Wong's mother and sister behind. He would never see them again. The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 made immigration a tricky process, and Wong was separated from his father at Angel Island.

Sedation dentistry is no longer weird. Phone cameras are really good. The price of solar panels has dropped by tens of thousands. Southern white rhinos, giant pandas, Arabian oryx and Stellar sea lions are no longer endangered.

And, I can testify, modern cancer treatments are fucking amazing.
Please give me an unironic list of things that have gotten better over the last ten years because I’m spiraling.

I’ll start: you can buy an enormous TV from Costco for like $100 bucks now.

i wonder if there was a menswear writer in 1914 who, shortly after writing an article on how to wear pants, went outside and saw a newspaper headline read "Archduke Franz Ferdinand, Assassinated" and he thought "hm, prob not good"
