MAGA rhetoric has it backwards. Our country was founded on the basis of encouraging opportunity for immigrants.

The problem with the immigration system isn't that it's failing to prevent people from coming here illegally. It's that it should be doing better to encourage them to come legally.

Their mindset - women should be silent and submissive while "men" talk - is the same as radical Islam, polygamist cultists, and anyone else (Trump and Epstein) who think their self-perceived status entitles them to take advantage of others.

One of Trump's most effective lies was redefining the "Swamp" to mean gov't employees.

The Swamp was about money and lobbyists influencing members of Congress. Remember how "special interests" was once a slur?

MAGA ideology AND extreme liberal causes are special interests that derailed democracy.

I'd take it further - a shutdown should trigger a new election for all seats. Parliamentary systems have that right - if you prove can't govern, they go back to the polls.

Even better to make current members ineligible to run the next term. Start cutting the dead weight out of the real Swamp.

Republicans have to own *this* shutdown, but both sides have contributed to the degradation of good governance in America.

OMB Director Russ Vought just canceled $8 billion in climate funding for CA, NY, CO, CT, DE, HI, IL, MD, MA, MN, NH, NJ, NM, OR, VT, and WA.

He also froze $18 BILLION for NYC infrastructure projects “to ensure funding is not flowing based on unconstitutional DEI principles.”

How is this legal?

This needs more than sternly worded letters and "what about the subsidies?"

Where is the affirmative platform for a better life for everyone, not just liberal identity groups?

How will Dems appeal to the average working and middle class family? That's who MAGA targets with their grievances.

Dems haven't presented a compelling vision of the future since Obama, and the sprint to the extreme left has alienated the core of working class Americans.

To get them back, Dems need a message that appeals to Main Street, not just repeat the same failed platform that lost 2 out of 3 to MAGA.

This is a MAGA shutdown, but Dems are still playing too safe to claw away the middle, who remain unconvinced they have much better to offer.

USAID had the privilege of supporting Jane Goodall's work in Tanzania. It wasn't just about chimpanzees, but about livelihoods for people and how we primates can coexist.

This administration killed it with USAID's other work. I'd say search for Hope Through Action, but you won't find it anymore.
