We were gutted that @eliza-coli.bsky.social’s stunning illustration wasn’t chosen for the front cover - I mean, just look at it! ✨

Working with Eliza was a joy & if you’re looking for a brilliant scientific illustrator to bring your projects to life, I can’t recommend her highly enough 🎨🧫🦠

Bifidobacteria co-evolve with their hosts - new research by the @halllab.bsky.social published in @cp-cellhostmicrobe.bsky.social and illustrated by me!

Another #NotTheCover for the books, but in this case, it's really their loss 😋

Colourful cartoon of a town feast, where all the townies are bifidobacteria, who are coloured to match the kind of (animal) houses they came from. The bacteria sat at a long dining table in the centre are eating lactose together and are using the same cutlery (or enzymes) to do this.. Lanterns light up the twilight as the sun sets. There are reptile houses, bee houses, monkey houses, chicken houses and all sorts of little surprises in the back (the whale and the rabbit buildings are my favourite)

Such an engaged audience at #EESMicrobiome with lots of great questions after my talk!

Big thanks to the organisers for inviting me to present some of the teams recent early life #microbiome work.

Conference has been AMAZING so far!

Excited to share our @cp-cellhostmicrobe.bsky.social led by Magda showing how Bif has co-evolved with different animal hosts 🐒🐭🐷🐦

Key takeaways:
🔹 Host ancestry + diet shape Bif evolution
🔹 Mammals enriched for carb-busting enzymes
🔹 Untapped diversity in non-human hosts = new probiotic potential

Really pleased to see this study led by @raymondkiu.bsky.social now published in @natcomms.nature.com!

We show that probiotics help modulate the preterm infant 👶#microbiome - to reduce ARGs, lower MDR bacteria 🦠 & increase beneficial Bifido ✨

Huge team effort!

🌍 #WorldMicrobiomeDay 2025
At @halllab.bsky.social we’re uncovering how microbes - right from day one - help shape the gut, strengthen immunity, and protect against infection.
We're exploring how, when, and which microbes colonise - in order to develop interventions for a healthier start to life.

Amazing to see this now published! Congrats to @lisalamberte.bsky.social and @wvschaik.bsky.social - on leading this important #microbiome study on #AMR and Staphylococcus haemolyticus in the preterm gut 👇
