I had it open today and actually worked on other player puppetry for solo network testing. Also conceptualized an easy faux 3D client for the 2D server.

Did that... then brain > mush. But there is still a heartbeat to my solo MMO project.

I might get some code done today.

I might end up writing my own simple database for objects.

I am so close to the breakthrough moment of "net sync works," (and is somewhat efficient).

I just need one session. Secure, uninterrupted sessions are so rare.

Yes, I worked on code today.

I started connecting the sqlite database to things, I started work on a clientside login screen.

The client will soon be asking the server to show the location of every thing nearby, except "me."

Testing this alone gets tricky. Not a net wiz, have 3 machines/IPs.

I was lucky to have gotten to work with an open source MMO Engine for almost a decade, studying, upgrading, and administering it live. 250k lines of code.

This is how I know what I am doing now, in creating my own.

I'm not bound by the constraints of emulation or IP, anymore.

I've got 600 lines of C++ powering my MMO server/engine.

In theory, it can now handle whatever number of players would cause my physical system to crash, I guess.

Each connected player now has a unique identifier and a few stats.

I don't know how feasible this is, but I would like to ->

hamnesiac.com still hosts my single player test, but I will have to launch a new one to do the MMO.

Good news is that I was further along on my server code than I remembered, I had already integrated a database, and it was working.

But I am also still so scarred from my previous gamedev experience, death threats from trump supporters, etc...

Somehow I had never tried reclaiming, so I played around last night. I recovered an old fort that I lost to a bronze colossus, fun.

Still shopping maps and biomes for a fun, sustainable start for a new, long term fort, tonight.

In my current fort, the Chamber of Smoke, my intent is to fortify in the caverns, maybe take in some new migrants just to join the military, then lay siege upon the underworld. Safely. To become comfortable with more challenging scenarios. May try a siege fort soon too, finally.

The Chamber of Smoke - Current fortress. Again, using the strategy of making an efficient starting base to grow population, and now I have a King and most of the world's wealth (small, young world), so I'm focusing downward.

I don't do sieges yet, just mega beasts and such.

Starvault - still had some bad habits, but I figured out how to get super rich. Got to 2 gem pillars.

The Duchess had the King consort killed, Queen died of sadness, so no Mountainhome. Sealed vault of divine treasures. Duchess is living it up.

Slingweed - I didn't know what I was doing yet, but I was starting to learn. Every citizen had a wooden house, big buildings had basements up to 3 levels. Everyone lived by where they worked. Lots of fishing. Elves *hated* me. May resume one day.

Godbasements - abandoned first attempt at mega underground engineering. Made the artificial river and cavern to move into and seal off, but wave after wave of giant agitated elephants pounded the surface, and I moved to a better map.
