I am all kinds of geekiness.
Pinned
Intro for newskis: I'm a Weird Old Lady and a giant nerd. I read a lot, I work in a library, I love horror and fantasy and science fiction, I knit and spin and I have approximate knowledge of many things.
(Yes, I am also the same Harmonyfb from the bird site and Livejournal. My horror is eternal.)
:Lightning crashes, spooky organ music sounds from within the bowels of the castle: Hear the footsteps of #HorrorWatch inexorably approaching!

Tonight's tale of cosmic terror is 1970's "The Dunwich Horror", featuring Sandra Dee (yes, really) and Dean Stockwell (sidekick from Quantum Leap).

I have an unexpected day off today; when I stumbled out of bed at 11 am, my cat was absolutely THRILLED. She made me sit on the couch & is now happily snoring next to me. I had things to do today. Guess they’re not getting done. 😄

:cries: But I don’t WANT to talk to people today. #LibraryLife

When I was taught CPR in the late 70s/early 80s, the timing was supposed to be a lot faster than that guy is doing. #HorrorWatch

Half an hour until the theater of the darned (aka #HorrorWatch) raises its curtain to reveal the face of snarky horror! Tonight's film is "Reanimator" - a bloody, sarcastic '80s romp which will imbed flippant lines so deep into your brain meat that you'll be quoting them decades from now.

Currently reading a locked-room mystery set aboard the Lusitania's final voyage ("Death on the Lusitania" by R. L. Graham.)

Since I had been in a reading-blackout since finishing "You Weren't Meant to be Human"(it was a LOT), I'm ready to get back to my normal habits. #BookSky

In good news, I got my new glasses today! Not only can I see more clearly, but they are cool as hell:

We watched the finale of #StrangerThings; it made me happy that there was genuine emotional payoff for everything. Yeah, there were some pacing issues, but they were minor.

Made two loaves of lovely sandwich bread on my day off today; they came out of the oven half an hour ago.

There's *one* loaf of bread in the kitchen. 🤣

I should know by now to double those recipes. #baking

Youngest daughter came and took her cat away to her new apartment, so we're a one-cat household now. Our 17 year old elderly baby is probably *thrilled*.

Last night I drank far too much champagne, and ate my weight in chocolate-covered bacon while chatting w/my best friend. That was awesome.

Also, I discovered that Manly's best friend's new wife is a huge fucking racist. That was absolutely NOT awesome. 😡

Next New Year, just me, Manly & my bestie.

We're about to head to Manly's best friend's house for our yearly New Year's Eve of eating snacks, drinking champagne, and running our mouths. Happy New Year to you all!

Tried a hair experiment where I layered my faded cherry-magenta with lavender, hoping for a Miss Havisham kind of new look.

Oh, it was new all right. Hideous pastel lavender with pink showing through, a first for me. I ran to Sally Beauty today to procure some dark purple to fix it. Dang. #HairWoes

Finally got around to watching "Weapons" today - it was really good. Not at all what I expected, and very scary. Loved that the big bad was so weirdly calm; it made the hair on my neck stand up, every time. #SpookyMovies

Thanks to everyone who recommended "Man Finds Tape" - I really enjoyed it! I do love a 'slighty-off-kilter' story that then careens wildly into WTF without explaining ANY of it to satisfaction. (Produced by the guys that did 'The Endless'; similar vibe w/more horror.) #Horrorwatch #SpookyMovies

My husband knocked it our of the park this Yule - Kaiju dress from Princess Awesome & long-wished-for Jack o’Lantern purse from La Femme en Noir. The third picture is the painting I bought for Manly Man from artist K.W. Heintz. #Yule

It's the end of the year, and time for my list of favorite reads from 2025! Bear in mind that some of them aren't published yet, as I have access to ARCs (but trust me!) I seem to have read an inordinate amount of parasite-related books this year. Huh. #Booksky #Books

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Week: #HorrorWatch!

Tonight's terror is a film I've never seen, but whose stills haunted me all through childhood. Join us for kindertrauma fun!

My fannish friends: I have come into possession of a jacket (at a thrift store, for $3) which is not my fandom, but which may be yours. Do you want it? Obviously I can’t get it to you this week, but I could send it next week. Size L (looks unisex). Give me a holler if you want it.

Bright blessings on the solstice! May the returning light shine brightly into every dark corner, burning away the festering evils there. From my lips to the ears of the Gods, hear my prayer. #WinterSolstice #Yule

Ten minutes until the pendulum swings, growing ever closer to... #HorrorWatch!

Tonight's fearsome foe is "Eyes Without a Face", a gruesome 1960 shocker about a doctor who does not give a fig for the Hippocratic Oath. Join us, or mute that hashtag!

As of right now, I am on vacation. Aw yissssss. I plan to spend the solstice baking and stuffing
my face. #Yule

Just got out of #DustBunny -omg what a weird, joyful, absolute banger of a film. Every little bit of it is fun and (if you like horror/dark fantasy) uplifting. And the cast! Uniformly great performances; no matter how small the part, they were all in. #SpookyMovies 🥰

Just over an hour till the best night of the week: #HorrorWatch! Join us (:distant whispers: join us, join us:) for the marketing cash grab that was William Castle's "Mr Sardonicus" (1961).

Stars Guy Rolfe, who was the doll-maker in "Dolls"! (& who also was in "And now the Screaming Starts!")

My first time joining in for #FolkHorrorFriday - we're watching "The White Reindeer", a Finnish folk-horror. Let the winter weirdness begin!
