I don’t think accuracy is much of a concern to Scott. On his commentary to the first Gladiator an on set historian or expert told him soldiers probably didn’t do something a certain way and his response was “they bloody well do now .”
Ridley Scott movies with good scripts or source material, like The Martian or Blade Runner , are great movies . Those with terrible scripts are basically terrible movies that just look great . 😊
Meant to post this yesterday, but last night’s #HATM was released in the same summer as the movie named after this song . Great summer for soundtracks . Interestingly, both this version (which hit #1 in the U.S. ) and the original were in Spanish. Imagine that today.
I would like to thank @herberthistory.bsky.social for finally picking this movie . I’ve had a lot of the comments on this bottled up in my head for a long time. Was just waiting for us to do it. This was probably my most anticipated #HATM viewing for a long time. Now waiting for “Sinners.” 😊
Here is what makes this ending really interesting to me. It’s the summer of 1963 and we all know what lays ahead for the country and this little party is basically one of the last times we see a lot of people having fun and all seems right with the world. #HATM
And here is in my opinion where Jake’s arc is complete. He’s looking around and seeing everyone have a good time and realizes that this is what he was fighting for all along in World War II #HATM
So is Kellerman really talking about the innocent time Period of the 50s through 1963 before Kennedy was assassinated when he says “it all seems to be ending”? #HATM
I’m not 100% on this, but I think I read that the hotel that was the inspiration for Kellerman‘s closed down not too long after the summer of 63. So that kind of makes this scene a little more poignant. #HATM
World War II saw a lot of people older than the average soldier I think. In saving Private Ryan I think Tom Hanks character was probably in his early 30s.
