For years, I've been working towards building a website to house all of my opinions and research. Today, it goes live with the launch article: Jet Fighter Generations Aren't Real.

This website comes with a major change in how I produce and share content, so please read. 🧵

Love all the detail. I've referenced this many times and will continue to do so

Maybe @aeck.bsky.social & @heatloss.bsky.social will like these.

Updated❗

Radar/Aircraft weight %. Red values are approximations. R-2L weight does not include power supply, APG-63 (40.5 lb or 18.4 kg) and RP-22SMA (16.3 kg) do include it. I have two sources for Cyrano IV, they don't agree. It's a mess really.

My thanks to @massiasthanos.bsky.social for bringing to my attention this application on Ti on the A3J Vigilante.

Wing leading edge, made from Ti-5Al-2.5Sn alloy, by TIG welding, with commercially pure Ti used as filler metal.

A3J Vigilante - the gold plated, titanium giraffe🧵

The North American Aviation A3J (first flight 31 August 1958) was one of the most advanced aircraft of its time, especially in terms of manufacturing technologies.

I'll make a version for YT in a few days to weeks

I did a cool presentation

Conferences are fun and also exhausting
heatloss.bsky.social
I was not the target audience but I laughed nonetheless
heatloss.bsky.social
The app also hardly works for me lol half the time I can't open a post

I'm pretty done with social media, I'm moving to YT and the website more and more.
heatloss.bsky.social
No. I didn't know people from Twitter were browsing here. I opened up this app after logging out of Twitter yesterday out of disgust
heatloss.bsky.social
Ah yes cheering on someone's death because they're on the "other side" is such a civil and normal and not authoritarian at all response
heatloss.bsky.social
This website prides itself on being better than Twitter but I don't really see it anymore
heatloss.bsky.social
I'm not seeing much support for Spain and Switzerland ditching. India deal is probably dead but this is also probably a good thing, we don't want to give free shit to the Russians.
But yes, Trump effect probably had something to do with that one

🧵 Footage of a Torpedo Testing Barge/Torpedo Trials Craft (YTT).

Probably YTT-2 at the Naval Torpedo Test Range, Piney Point, Maryland.

Note observation barge dropping its semaphore for signaling the moment that the torpedo crosses its line.

Not beating the kegseth allegations
ronfilipkowski.bsky.social
The Pete Hegseth pull-up is a bit different than the ones we did at Parris Island. Maybe it’s an Army thing.

well, i am in law school

but i'd rather spend my time not getting paid enough but working with radars

Work is all yours, though.

MiG-23 turn rate🧵

One important fighter aircraft performance parameter, for close range air combat, is turn rate [ω, measured in °/s].

I will be comparing the maximum sustained & instantaneous turning ability of the MiG-23, with that of other contemporary fighters.

Mobile protected firepower was more to replace the Sheridan conceptually but without LAPES and the compromises made for that capability. I think that's still extremely relevant. Booker was just the wrong vehicle for the job.
I don't know enough about AMPV to comment.

Studies are done before new aircraft requirements are drawn up that determine whether or not an alternative like that would work. I expect that F-35 based alternatives were explored in depth and determined to not sufficiently meet requirements, much like with F-15's development.
heatloss.bsky.social
That would require a significant redesign internally externally and require a RCS re-optimization. It sounds easy but in practice with modern aircraft it's really hard. 174 is also not the only thing they want in F/A-XX.
