#TheTwen2ie5 HM 2 "Tyrant" Beyoncé feat. Dolly Parton (2024)
I decided not to add to Beyoncé's vote split & let her bigger singles duke it out, but I love this daffy hip hop Western about a randy bounty hunter too much not to mention it
I'll have a Stars of Latin Music block in the next half & it felt wrong to snub Bad Bunny completely; I hear his music in the wild a lot around Tampa. To my ears this is the most successful fusion of modern/traditional he was attempting w/ his new album
Interesting. More & more people I respect are saying this so I'll take a closer look. He screamed "poser" to me even before all this broke, but hey, I'll cop to having hyper cynical "if it seems too good to be true, it is" bias which may be clouding my perception of him
Not sure what I'd call this but I loathe the type that just kinda cutesily winks at old hits to elicit nostalgia (examples "God & Guns n' Roses"; "Bottle Rockets"). It's not really self aware or earnest about its lameness, it's more "tee hee, u see what I did there?"
I'm losing my mind w/ this, what is wrong w/ these guys so attached to Platner. I watched his clips before this blew up & didn't see anything special that would make him the WWC whisperer. I'm not either but I do interact w/ some blue collar Trump/non voters & I'm certain they wouldn't vibe w/ him
When Cher came up in the '89 tournament I was laughing about the same thing, thinking she was a cool old lady while she was like, 4 years younger than I am now. I also remembered all the "wow, she looks great for age!" discourse at the time 😬
I think that another song from this album may have the momentum, but I'm drawn to the epic title track with the jaw dropping, face melting solo (I was a teenage classic rock geek, what can I say)
This is what I think of as Video Game Metal which I can only take in small doses, but I love the hyperactive modal thing going on here & that the singer vocalizes a guitar solo
My husband's Bulgarian coworkers commandeering the DJ booth at a party c. 2003 was my 1st exposure to this type of E. European folk/techno. I was charmed but didn't explore further. Thank you Go_A for putting it back on my radar
My most played alt rock track of the year; something in the warm churn of the guitars & hypnotic thwack of the drums trips the "again, again" synapse in my brain
Gets my max bonus on raw sentiment; I feel this cute piano pop vignette as a eulogy for my brother, evoking a carefree time in our childhood when he was a daredevil on a BMX
Most of this album is in English & more typical (but still engaging) indie pop/adult alternative; this is one of the Thai flavored songs inspired by her grandma. I dig the retro cinematic feel
