Never would have guessed that the murderous driver on the Carmageddon cover comes from this old Clive Barker comic. I think it's also my first comic book reference that isn't a Marvel one. @hg101.bsky.social told me about this one. samderboo.com/tracing.php?... #TracingTheInfluence

Remember how I kept talking about the Metroidvania book I had in the works, and then it kinda dropped off the radar? I didn't lose interest. I was just working with a Legit Major Publisher (Dark Horse!) on turning it into the pilot release for a Press Run team-up: www.gamespot.com/articles/exp...

7 years ago the @hg101.bsky.social guide to retro horror dropped (get yours now if you don't have it - IF YOU DARE MWAHAHAHAHA) www.amazon.com/dp/172627554X/

Ahaha I still use one of their ancient programs (PagePlus)

it was an $18 charge in addition to the actual the tariff fees. It's not officially specified but based on Reddit murmurings, this is around $18 or a small percentage of the charged tariffs, whichever is higher

It does seem like some places are taking advantage of the uncertainty and doing things like that

eBay seems inconsistent and depends on the seller. Small packets seem to make it through the USPS if it's low value or declared as a gift

I think books (or printed material in general?) is exempt. Stuff like CDs too. Who knows about games.

*customs paperwork, cursed autocorrect
hg101.bsky.social
This came in earlier this week, zero tariffs! Not even a customs surcharge like DHL did when I ordered some figures from Suruga-ya. Probably since it was all books. There was no customers paperwork though so I don't know how it was classified.

Recently ordered a few books from Mandarake which in theory should be exempt from tariffs, let's see what DHL does

Die Hard PC Engine was originally going to be released by Nichibutsu as "Dasshutsu" 脱出 which at a glance looks very similar to 脱獄 aka P.O.W. but ended up getting renamed to Die Hard and released from Pack in Video, can't find information about why but interesting nonetheless. #pcengine
脱出 (Escape) temp name is the title of the game shown here

It is apparently one of my most popular articles (*sigh*) so, in case you were ever curious about the PC-98 horror series Dead of the Brain, I did a little write-up a couple of years ago on these two cult classic VN titles.

Dead of the Brain 1 & 2 - The Nightmare Never Ends
Horror PC-98 adventures Dead of the Brain 1 and 2 were developed by a company specialised in erotic games. But are they a decent proposition?

It looks like it's out of print. :( I have a different MSX book about Konami that I think I ordered from Spain several years ago
hg101.bsky.social
you can definitely make that happen!

I can't say for sure but I'm assuming that's how it'll go down

Alright, let’s recommend some books about games. This will be a thread I add stuff to as I think of it.

Kurt Kalata writes about all kinds of games but if you’ve known his work as long as I have, he’s Mr. Castlevania. I really liked this one.

Okay, I’m like 98.47% done with my parts of 32 Bit Library Greatest Hits Vol 1!

The other cool part is stuff is rolling in from @hg101.bsky.social for it, and…

“HERE COMES A NEW CHALLENGER!”

I got @glitch.mov’s contribution for the book already.

This one is going to be fun!

People are not always the best at voicing their support even if they are reading it. Especially over social media. Take pride in your writing!

Yeah. Bitmap's basic designs are actually very clean and structured. Once you make something you're happy with you can just continue to copy/paste.
