I'm going to embarrass myself and admit I don't get why the prevailing wisdom is visual novels/dating sims, etc. are only complete after clearing every route.

'fraid not. I only ever had a basic white PCE

afaik it's meant to be pretty good. Just the 2 hu-card versions joined together on a CD with arranged music. Not arcade perfect but then none of the home ports to this day are. Mame's better for accuracy but most of the home ports have benefits too
