As we move from Yom Kippur to Sukkot, may we continue to find strength in the values of love, compassion, and understanding – holding ourselves and each other in them.

divide us.

Our country and community have come through many difficult moments before. And while this is a painful time, we are confident that we can come through it together too.
hiasjcore.bsky.social
We are still learning the facts from yesterday, but one thing is certain: we cannot allow this terrible day to divide us. We are more determined than ever to continue our work toward a welcoming, compassionate Britain. At this critical juncture, we must stand together against those who would

division spreading worldwide. Yet we also take great strength from the many touching messages of condolence and support we received yesterday from faith and community leaders. This solidarity means so much. We know that our collective humanity is far more powerful than those who seek to spread fear.

The rise of antisemitism in the UK is deeply troubling. We are sadly seeing this more and more through our work, and it is vital that the authorities continue to take our community’s concerns seriously. Amidst our grief, we recognise too that this is sadly part of a global trend, with hate and

We are shocked and heartbroken by yesterday’s horrific attack in Manchester. Our hearts go out to the Jewish community in Manchester and all those affected at this incredibly difficult time – may the memory of those killed be a blessing. We desperately hope that those injured make a full recovery.

It's crucial that we don't allow the populist & far-right to exploit our concerns about rising antisemitism.

Ahead of Yom Kippur, our Executive Director writes for @jewishnews.bsky.social on why we must continue to stand with others against divisive movements.

Wishing all of our supporters and followers celebrating L'Shana Tova - a good new year.

Such human suffering must always be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

This move from the UK government must just be a first step toward a future where all in the region can live in dignity, safety, and peace. Our elected officials must do all they can to make this vision a reality. (4/4)

We have to be frank though: while to save one life is to save the world, we know too that this programme is just a drop in the ocean of what is needed. The devastation in Gaza – from repeated forced displacement, to the collapse of the healthcare system and reported famine – is appalling. (3/4)

the Government’s programme, which provides essential support to seriously ill children whose lives have been devastated by the war in Gaza.

It is right that we support any policy which affirms the dignity and humanity of Palestinians. (2/4)

Did you know that thousands of migrants are being forced to wait over ten years until they can permanently settle in the UK? And if this Government has their way, over a million more people will be trapped in this decade-long wait.

Yvette Cooper was spot on about refugee family reunion – in 2021.

Closing this route risks forcing vulnerable people into the hands of smuggling gangs.

If the Government wants to stop dangerous Channel crossings, there’s a clear solution: open and expand safe routes now.
hiasjcore.bsky.social
The Government’s rightly concerned about forcing people seeking asylum onto the streets. Yet they've also decided to halve the ‘move-on’ period for most to just 28 days – a change that will likely push many new refugees into destitution and homelessness. We need this change to urgently be reversed.
hiasjcore.bsky.social
Today's new immigration statistics show that 57% of people arriving by small boat come from just 5 countries: Afghanistan, Eritrea, Iran, Syria, Sudan.

These nationalities all face war or persecution. Yet none have a meaningful safe route here. It's clear: there's a vital need for new pathways.

People are people — equally holy & equally deserving of safety, home, & food when hungry.

HIAS has consistently called to release the hostages & deliver desperately-needed humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza.

The absolute truth: Gaza needs a massive and unobstructed aid effort to save lives.

After 20 years of waiting, a refugee family has finally made it to safety 🤲

The family of eight is HIAS’ first resettlement case since January 20, when President Trump halted the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program on his first day in office.

This is what starting over with dignity looks like:
After HIAS Lawsuit, a Refugee Family Begins New Life in U.S.
After a judge ruled that the U.S. must admit some refugees in spite the Trump administration's ban, a family of eight began a new life.

This deal could be an important move toward a fairer, more dignified asylum system. But until the Government provides full details on how it would work, the jury is still out. (6/6)
