A damned shame that the darkspawn still seem to be an
issue, do Wardens not deserve a break? Especially after
all you've accomplished? I've no doubt you'll make quick
work of them, of course, I've encountered very few people

(2/2) here's the rest. i'd wanted to figure some way to better format for here but this works

The elf is backed up against the tree, weakly holding up his sword despite clearly being injured. He says: You might kill me, but I'll take one of you with me, shemlen.
Text reads: To a human Warden, he's defensive and alert. Expecting no kindness from them, he's prepared to go down fighting.

Two text boxes outlining the possible options.
The Warden can choose one of the following:
1. Offer him a health poultice. (possible recruitment)
2. End his suffering. (Verano dies, no recruitment)
or 3. Leave him to his fate. (Verano dies, no recruitment)

If they are in the party, Zevran and Leliana will make comments in favor of assisting him, while Morrigan and Sten comment that he may be a liability. If Wynne is in the party, the Warden does not need to expend resources to help him.

Now healed, the elf can be seen clearer, wearing green leather accented by metal pauldrons and bracers. He looks skeptical as he says "Ma serannas... Perhaps I was too quick to judge you.", with the specification that this is to a human Warden.
Text says: Verano will thank the Warden for healing him and they will have the option to ask him what happened. He will explain his clan was fleeing north and he was injured while defending them from darkspawn.

The elf bows his head with a pleading look to the viewer, hand on his chest. He says "My clan may be in the wind by now, but this Blight still threatens them. I have to do something."

Text states: If they introduce themself as a Grey Warden at any point, he will stop them before they leave to request to join them. Alternatively, the Warden can leverage the fact that they saved his life to recruit him to the party.

Elf, Warrior, Guardian
Verano is a Dalish elf warrior from the Sabrae clan. He can be found injured on the road to the Brecilian forest, having made a last stand to defend his clan while they escaped north. If you help him, he requests to join because he understands the threat the darkspawn pose to all living things. With his clan in the wind, he has to do what he can to protect them, and all of the People, from afar.
At first glance he is fairly quiet and reserved, still adjusting to the rest of Ferelden after only living among the Dalish his entire life. He will express curiosity about the Warden's background and worldview, and has a very vocal distaste for the Chantry.
Verano uses the Guardian specialization from Awakenin, and would be willing to teach it to the Warden.

Approval:
Approves actions helping the underprivileged (elves, low caste dwarves, mages, refugees), as well as defiance towards nobles and royalty. In dialogue he enjoys a witty/rude Warden who doesn't falter in their beliefs, even those he might disagree with.

He dislikes any pro-Chantry comments and will openly express that he thing the Urn of Sacred Ashes is a waste of time.

If the Warden attempts to kill the Dalish or let the alienage elves be enslaved, Verano will step in and strongly advise against it. If the Warden proceeds anyways, he will leave the party and attack them, stating that "If you are all that stands between us and oblivion, then perhaps this world has earned it."

Gifts blurb 1:
Verano likes trinkets related to the Dalish (ie. Silver Halla Pendant, Carved Ironbark Ring), but he also has a bit of a fascination with beasts and monsters and loves gifts related to those (Etching of a Varterral, Drake Fang Pendant, Griffon statuette).

Approval

At higher approval ratings, Mahariel will discuss more of his life amongst the Dalish, revealing that he had already had some experience with the Blight, after his friend was tainted by a strange, ancient mirror. This is part of why he was so insistent to join upon learning they were a Grey Warden.

If in a Romance, the Warden can ask further about his relationship with Tamlen, at which point he will admit that he was in love with him but never got the chance to confess.

As part of his personal quest, when travelling with Verano there is the chance to be attacked by a group of darkspawn, amongst which is Tamlen as a ghoul. Verano and the Warden are forced to put him out of his misery. Afterwards, the Warden and Verano can hold some semblance of a Dalish funeral ceremony at camp, repeating the rites in Elvish together.

Gifts:
His story gift is a small stone with a relief carving of two ravens called the Token of Dirthamen. It belonged to Tamlen, and can be found in the Brecilian Forest.

If romanced, Morrigan or Zevran may have party dialogue teasing him for the fact that he grafted one of the pendants the Warden has given him to his earring.

Romance:
A Warden of any gender can romance Verano (though he'd note he has a preference for men). He's fairly receptive to flirting, and if you show interest + he has moderate approval, he will offer to the Warden to spend the night together as "stress relief," commenting that these events are all very harrowing, they deserve a night where they're the one taken care of. Afterwards, the Warden can leave things as a one night stand and pursue other romances, or you can ask about a relationship, prompting him to get quiet before asking to leave/ending the cutscene (though still giving positive approval). If you talk to him again, he will quickly admit that while he enjoyed their time together (and wouldn't mind repeating it), he realizes he's not sure if he's finished grieving just yet. The Warden will have the option to spend the night with him again at any point, but will require high approval to formerly start a relationship. If already high approval by this point, he'll say he just needs the Warden to continue to be patient with him and enters a romance.

Regardless of approval status, the 'love' status can't be obtained until after Tamlen's funeral is completed.
