As you hinted only 7 non-US players in a matchday 23 moving forwards...

With all these Canadians being freed up, and MLR short a team (7 is a very unbalanced league number), do you think there's a chance Pacific Pride can be bolstered, and offer/bargain to join in?

I would tend to agree, and land value taxes do <broadly> appeal...

But there's a huge issue this government has failed to address when understanding value of land for farmers and "workable land" vs rich aristocrats and inherited country estates.

This is particularly useful for our older asset rich, but cash poor pensioners, who are reluctant to downsize.

Making it easier for them to move should create a world of positive effects downstream.

Who benefits from the abolition of stamp duty land tax?

The first answer: people buying very expensive homes. Average saving for someone buying a £10m+ home is £1.7m. Average saving for someone buying a £250k-£500k home is £5k.

Are we doing the flawed overreaction on children’s height again?

www.neilobrien.co.uk/p/honey-we-d...

Another undiscussed point is that we have a larger India diaspora in our country than Europe, one which tends to be shorter on global average too…
Indians shortest ethnic group, and more prevalent in UK than other European countries.

This has a relative effect on average height.

I've been the smug, insufferable leftist who expects moral purity from my candidates. I still am at heart. But I've come to realise that purity is privilege. It doesn't exist, so waiting for it justifies inaction. The people I meet will benefit from "good enough" long before "perfect" arrives

You’re conflating my assertion of “the neoliberal order has done demonstrative good for global standards” with a fictionalised version of what you’d like to argue against.

I don’t think it’s perfect and as pointed out, relative pay distributions is a clear divergence…

This != social breakdown
hitchikerspie.bsky.social
Eh?

You can truncate any of these graphs from 1979 and still see the same extant effect
hitchikerspie.bsky.social
It is entirely possible to suggest a different order for the future, I have no false impression that we sit at the end of history, however to deny the very obvious benefits of the last 100 years is simply disingenuous.
hitchikerspie.bsky.social
The neo liberal order you complain about has driven the greatest uplift in human conditions in history at an absurd pace...

There's plenty of critiques to levy, but "poverty worsening" is simply false on a population level, and the social collapse you almost gleefully pontificate on is seen nowhere
What the neo-liberal world order has done to global poverty... Global neo-liberal order's effect on life expectancy Effect of neo-liberal rules based order on deaths from war *not* population adjusted. Effect of neo-liberal order on child mortality
hitchikerspie.bsky.social
If you're expecting a conservative party leader to lead the charge against the neoliberal order I really don't know what to tell you...

This policy is a good one, there's plenty more we ought to implement with regards to tax reform, abolishment of National Insurance, removal of triple lock etc...
hitchikerspie.bsky.social
Unironically removing stamp duty and introducing a new housing tax is a fantastic policy suggestion...

It stabilises government income much more, encourages people to move house, especially eases up downsizing for older asset rich pensioners.

This has long been argued for by policy wonks.

Felt instructive how Argentina didn't comment, doesn't really matter to them what flavour of foreign team their players are showing out for
hitchikerspie.bsky.social
Yep, one of many reasons the women’s game should well avoid it imo, but the decision is made 🤷‍♀️

If they do tour France I think a Barbarians squad which functions as “Best of the World” could be fun as a first game

Catches both teams when they’re still acquainting themselves, play at Twickers…
