'Avoid generalisations by diagnosing the specific needs of your pupils — what’s true in one setting may not be in another.'

Love this.

National education discourse is rife with moral panics about national outcomes (attendance, R&R, belonging), but local needs are identified through proximity.

Great points - easy to fall for illusion of invulnerability when the need for change is desperate.

Also wonder whether we underestimate the potential impact on pupil self-efficacy. Being taught in the 'other class' can stay with people for life.

It notes how evaluations often focus on teacher attitudes to implementing practices but pay less attention to the emotional journeys required for learning, adaptation & growth.

Interesting paper looking at the 'fuzzier' side of teacher professional development... their emotional responses.

Interesting paper identifying link between teacher self-efficacy and pupil outcomes.

Unsurprising, but implication is teacher perception of their mastery of teaching strategies is important alongside the actual improvements in practice.

Company matters, and not sure it always needs to be a friend. The best mara & ultra results I've had involved long stretches meeting and chatting with complete strangers.

Guess that it's possible only a small proportion of people think all three things?

The electorate aren't homogeneous. Politically courageous leaders decide who they agree with, not how you can optimally balance off public opinions.

Such a crucial finding!

We reviewed the evidence on teacher experience some years ago and surprise surprise, it matters!

Lots of talk about 'inclusion' at the school level currently, but essential to consider segregation across the system.
