Reports say FP-5 “Flamingo” cruise missiles have begun to be used, range >3,000 km, warhead ≈1,150 kg — FP-5 output ~2–3/day now, expected to rise to ~7/day later this month; each FP-5 costs ≈$500,000.

~60% of deep strikes on Russian territory are carried out by Ukrainian Fire Point FP-1 drones (range ≈1,500 km, cost ≈$55,000 each, now churned out >100/day.) Ukraine also uses Lyutyi (range 2,000 km)👇 economist.com/europe/2025/...

A key question going into winter is how focused and intense Russia’s strike campaign will be — against Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, defense industry, military sites, and civilians — and how well Ukraine can defend against it.

In other words, under the current U.S. framework, there’s essentially no viable “Plan B.” Any conflict in the region would start with high expectations for rapid, decisive outcomes.

While U.S. doctrine acknowledges that a peer conflict could become long and drawn-out, it doesn’t explicitly talk about victory against China. Still, doctrine, operational concepts, force structure, and planned capabilities suggest the U.S. aims for decisive success from the outset in East Asia.

Thanks for reading! I should add that in the book I primarily discuss U.S. ideas of rapid, decisive warfare rooted in systems thinking.

‘Patriots were previously protected by other systems such as… Iris-T and medium-range batteries. Now, with some of those assets damaged or redeployed, “the Patriots have to cover themselves” while engaging incoming Russian missile threats in some cases, said one person familiar with the matter.’

Ukraine’s air defence forces say that to be effective, they must launch three interceptors for each Shahed drone, which at current attack levels amounts to about 2,500 interceptors per day. on.ft.com/4nsjsUy

Gas stations in Ukraine have become wartime hubs—fueling generators during blackouts, serving as handoff points for volunteers, and marking the front line itself. “As long as the gas station stands, it means it’s still under Ukrainian control…a pillar of hope.” www.nytimes.com/2025/09/23/w...
