I hate writing in the sense that writing is agonizing, but it's agonizing the way getting a really good massage is. It hurts but it's unclenching some shit that's been tensed up. If it doesn't get done I am going to explode, and trying to make a robot get the massage for me would be fucking stupid.

I feel bad when I read people who say they hate writing, especially to the extent they’d let an LLM do it. Writing was the path to making me feel human and the emotional journey of doing it all the time fills me full of purpose. I refuse to believe I’m the only person who feels like this!

One of the under-stated signs that this is all a bubble and even the players know it is that they’re rushing to build data centres in places that make zero sense if you actually plan on operating a data centre. The Paluxy watershed just does not have the water supply, this is all smash-and-grab.

Bees 🐝
This art features 100 bees of various colors and shapes. These bees are designed in a cartoonish style, based on real species. The common name or species is written below the animals. Some bees are moving leaves, scraping plant hair, or sticking out their tongues. Some male bees have hairy faces and unusually shaped legs. There are also baby bees that have just hatched from their petal nests. Cute and colorful atmosphere. There are over 20,000 species of bees, so I only depicted a very small fraction of them!

My Kalma has been diagnosed with breast cancer. The good news is she is in good health it may be low grade, meaning surgery will drastically improve life expectancy. The bad is it normally costs around $6000 and is time sensitive- things I just do not have.

There's a story popularized by Grace Hopper, computer pioneer, about a 1947 failure in the Harvard Mark II computer that was traced to a moth trapped in an electrical relay.

Here's a photo of the operator log, with the attached bug.

Text under it reads:
"First actual case of bug being found"
The First "Computer Bug" Moth found trapped between points at Relay # 70, Panel F, of the Mark II Aiken Relay Calculator while it was being tested at Harvard University, 9 September 1947. The operators affixed the moth to the computer log, with the entry: "First actual case of bug being found". (The term "debugging" already existed; thus, finding an actual bug was an amusing occurrence.) In 1988, the log, with the moth still taped by the entry, was in the Naval Surface Warfare Center Computer Museum at Dahlgren, Virginia, which erroneously dated it 9 September 1945. The Smithsonian Institute's National Museum of American History and other sources have the correct date of 9 September 1947 (Object ID: 1994.0191.01). Carved in Stone is a comprehensive setting guide for early medieval Pictish society, and as such my work on it was wide and varied and included illustrating real artifacts, speculative penannular brooch designs, and even the animals that would have inhabited their world.

Ubisoft is no more, long live Ubisoft! On January 21, 2026, Yves Guillemot announced the end of remote work, closure of several studios, cancellation of projects, and a new 200€ million “cost-cutting” plan. We were informed of this at the same time as the press — as none of these changes had been discussed during the mandatory consultations with the works councils a few days earlier! On January 26, 2026, management announced the implementation of a voluntary departure plan that will affect 200 people at Ubisoft’s headquarters. We are promised autonomy for « Creative Houses », but what about autonomy for employees? We have been negotiating for over a year on remote work policy, sometimes under difficult conditions. An agreement has been in place since September in some studios. Trampled underfoot! We are told about responsibilities, but those who wield this word so easily do not take any responsibility for the consequences of their catastrophic management. We are not fooled: rather than taking financial responsibility for layoffs, they prefer to push us out by making our working conditions unbearable. It’s outrageous. It is because we love Ubisoft that this situation revolts us. Ubisoft’s unions are calling for a massive international strike by all Ubisoft employees on the 10th, 11th and 12th of February 2026. NO to their anti-remote-work obsession to “cost-cutting” plans on employees’ backs to top-down decisions to coercive control on our working conditions YES to our leaders truly taking their responsibilities to management’s duty of sincerity in the face of its failings It is time for our management to understand that they cannot do whatever they want, whether with public money or the work of hundreds of people! Without us, Ubisoft would never have conquered and transformed video games as it has. WE ARE UBISOFT.
