@helenfcarr.bsky.social makes the point that children find it hard to believe the inhumanity of the Holocaust. This is why teachers need help, for example from @uclholocaust.bsky.social, to deal with their own human reactions to the unimaginable. #HistoryEducation

Now @helenfcarr.bsky.social brings us her research around teaching the Holocaust in an international context where this topic is seen as especially controversial. How do children gain knowledge of SCIs in spaces where the conversation is closed down/ removed from the curriculum?

Quality of post-session discussion is really helping colleagues to grapple with the issues of teaching sensitive & controversial topics - so much so we've run over on the first morning session! Agreement around importance of secure subject knowledge to manage free range discussions in classrooms.
Having just returned from breakout rooms where HTEN members have been engaging with a resource for the classroom, it is great to hear Rob Kanter @manmetuni.bsky.social unpacking how #historyteacher #TeacherEducation colleagues can support #ITT #ECT s teach complex histories of Middle East.
