In order to deem a “new” type of violence as unacceptable and worthy of punishment, you need popular and political support which you rarely get through these types of extrajudicial measures. Which isn’t to say action outside of “approved” methods isn’t valuable…

A deadly shooting already has a specific criminal statute that requires existing entities to retaliate or prevent along with widespread political and popular support.

It’s true that there can be a disparity. “The state monopoly on violence” is true and the state deems that type acceptable. The other disparity is the “solution” to stopping that violence….

It could theoretically prove insightful since different states legalized it at different points in time.

Spotting fake posts by people posing as your political opponents is an underrated skill. No one can be perfect, but seeing who falls for them is a decent metric for identifying who you should trust.
