Together with @ifaweu.bsky.social @eurogroupforanimals.org and @furfreealliance.bsky.social we wrote to Commissioner @jessikaroswall.ec.europa.eu, expressing concerns that @ec.europa.eu could reallow products from seal hunts conducted for marine resource management purposes on the #EU market.

☠️ The “lethal dose” test was first introduced in 1927 to determine the amount of a chemical or substance that kills 50% of a group of animals. It is still in use despite progress in animal-free science. As the #EU prepares to update its chemicals law, REACH, we can end LD tests for good.

Many species are protected in their countries of origin, but once trafficked into the #EU, they fall through the cracks of EU regulations.

To stop this devastating practice, the EU must commit to legislation that criminalises the import, purchase, and sale of #wildlife taken illegally at source.

The Supreme Administrative Court of #Bulgaria has upheld a Ministerial Order from 2022 banning the breeding and import of American #mink. The order was challenged by the country’s only mink farm which ceased operations earlier this year. Bulgaria is now free of fur farms.
