I would second this entry. This War of Mine is something different. With expansions game gets even more serious by introducing kids, pets etc.

@vucasimulations.bsky.social in their recent newsletter announced several new ready games as well as preorders. I am especially fond of Traces of Victory - a game I had a pleasure to playtest. Great continuation of the series - and a big challenge for Allies! 👇

In the end game felt short on describing the campaign. Used system didn't match with the scale, supply and movement was too easy and overall game didn't give feeling on fighting the Continuation War. Mandatory attack (which has caused some discussion in BGG) was weird, but not the biggest problem.

Funniest, and weirdest, moment was in the beginning of the game when Finnish army corps was attacking and as a result of poor rolls retreated six hexes. That's in real life 200km!

We played start of the campaign and ended after three turns. Game had good ideas, but the scale of the system used (copied from previous games) didn't work for the Continuation War. Movement and supply was too easy, especially in North, where in our game German's could just blitz through.

New article (in Finnish): The Finnish Front, 1941-42 (2009). TFF is magazine game designed by Ty Bomba ja Joseph Miranda, and published by Decision Games. Game focuses on the first year of the Continuation War (1941-44). TFF is chit-pull game with hex-map. huoltoreitti.fi/pelattuna-tff/

Organizing game components to new trays bought from @cube4me.bsky.social! Here an example from Conquest & Consequqnces from @gmtgames.bsky.social. All three players have own trays, speeding setup. And everything fits in to box, even with mounted map!

Not #unboxing, but boxing! Moving magazine and folio wargames to cardboard boxes and adding labels for easier access. All six games relate to wars of Finland. 🇫🇮

Trawling through the Finnish Defence Forces archive and this absolute gem appeared. Crying out for an album cover...

I'm also wondering how other countries will be implemented in the expansion. Now "hosting" countries are a bit too passive for what I would expect. Even when taking into account that this game doesn't try to simulate whole conflict, only decisive actions. Will be interesting to see how that plays.

In short: I liked it. Longer answer is that I like games, where you can plan your approach for the situation, and that is really the key here (through the selection of cards). There are so many possibilities that it is overwhelming. Which is my main concern. Learning curve is steep.

US victory was greatly supported by me playing Russians while Antero was playing US. 😆 Some might remember Antero for winning EotS tournament in 2019 WBC…
