Part 2 of the 🇩🇰Arctic defence agreement was announced today with a budget of 27.4bn DKK (3.7bn EUR). The maritime part constitutes 22.3bn DKK or 81%, but also includes P-8 maritime patrol aircraft in cooperation with a NATO ally. 🇳🇴Norway is a good and logic candidate.
hanstino.bsky.social
According to TV2 the new Part 2 of the Arctic defence agreement will include:

2 additional Arctic frigates (total 5)

Maritime Patrol aircraft (reportedly P-8)

Icebreaking “capacity”

Drones

Radars

New military HQ in Nuuk

Naval facilities in Nuuk

Army Arctic regiment

it's fun how every Trump tantrum about China has a 95 percent chance of blowing over in two weeks and a 5 percent chance of destroying the global economy.

This is extremely on point. If you want to know someone’s politics without asking them directly, you ask about their view of Macron 🤷‍♀️
julienhoez.eu
How you view Emmanuel Macron depends on who you support politically:

- LFI: Macron is a fascist globalist elite bank baron
- PS: Emmanuel Macron is a right-wing capitalist & hates poor people
- Ensemble / Renaissance: Macron is a centrist
- LR: Macron is a socialist
- Far-right: Macron's a Commie

It’s pretty impressive that the NB8 - a group of small European countries - is now coordinating with G7
alanderminna.bsky.social
Interesting statement on the shadow fleet by an interesting group of countries from G7 and the Nordic-Baltic 8++: Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, European Union, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
Statement: Shadow Fleet Task Force
On October 8, 2025, Canada and Denmark convened a meeting of the Shadow Fleet Task Force.

I mean, the tank is the pinnacle of thousands of years of developing the ultimate fighting machine.

…which is also why the battlefield is filled with other systems specifically designed to kill it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Not sure I've ever seen a film of the QF 17-pdr firing. I knew it was a beast, but this is seriously impressive! I certainly don't doubt the stopping power of it 😀

The formidable Quick-Firing 17-pounder (76.2 mm / 3 inch) anti-tank gun, in action. #WW2 #HISTORY

(Even the 105 mm can be argued to be a middle-ground calibre lacking a good use case)
corporalfrisk.com
Yes, the battlefield has for a long time been dominated by things that either are armoured to a level that can't take modern 30/35/40 mm, or then to a level that means anything but 105/120 mm is just a waste. That gives little incentives to carry a 57 mm.
corporalfrisk.com
I mean, we’ve seen countless of attempts at modern 40-57 mm calibres, and they never quite seem to stick. But if an MBT is approaching 70 tons newbuilt, and you can get decent protection and (almost) the same firepower at 40 tons, there might be some takers ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
corporalfrisk.com
My knee-jerk reaction is still to say that there is limited use of a light tank, but on the other hand I do have to note that concept never seems to quite die, and there was indeed an earlier moment in time when the heavy tank was deemed too heavy, and replaced by the more mobile main battle tank.

Yes, but "När TP 84 Hercules nu fyller 60 år i svensk tjänst står flygplanet inför vissa utmaningar" is quite the understatement. Granted the oldest ones are retired, but the remaining ones are still getting rather worn! I do also expect a decision on additional aircraft to replace Hercs.
corporalfrisk.com
With that said four aircraft is a rather low number in light of the current situation for Sweden, which had twice the number of Hercs for the purpose of national defence and now is a NATO non-frontline state.

...and the political angle is obvious

It's still a really nice aircraft though!
corporalfrisk.com
First aircraft delivered by end of 2027. That's a rather fast delivery time (although granted that's four year after the first two ex-Italian Air Force C-130J were slated to arrive, further stretching the life of Sweden's Vietnam War-era warriors 😅), and a really nice new platform!

A decade since I officially got my master’s degree 🥳 To the surprise of absolutely no one, my thesis - the part of the studies where you look into something in great detail and write a never-ending text on it - got a better grade (4 - Very Good) compared to my overall studies grade (2.75 - Good) 😁

MiG-31 really sticks out! Yes, the Zaslon is a beast of a radar, but the MiG-31 is also a beast of an aircraft at a max takeoff weight that is higher than that of the Embraer E175!
baa43a3ahy.bsky.social
Updated❗

Radar/Aircraft weight %. Red values are approximations. R-2L weight does not include power supply, APG-63 (40.5 lb or 18.4 kg) and RP-22SMA (16.3 kg) do include it. I have two sources for Cyrano IV, they don't agree. It's a mess really.

I subscribe to too many emails, but one of the few I actually read is Missile Matters. It’s suitably geeky, and provides a deeper understanding of missile warfare which is a topic you see discussed surprisingly often in news and social media these days 😅

This week’s conclusions are spot on.

The Economist tends to be very well-briefed when it comes to matters of British security. This is the second article I have seen in as many days warning about Russia‘s hybrid warfare against the West.
I would take this seriously.
